Your Wedding Ring – Keep It Beautiful Forever
March 31st, 2008Your wedding ring is one of the most precious things you own. It is a symbol of the deep bond you and your husband share. It is a symbol of the vows you have taken together. You want to keep it looking good and new for the rest of your life.
Over the years, soaps, lotions, creams, powders can leave a nasty residue on your wedding ring, that’s why you must clean your ring regularly, to keep it shining and looking new. Try these few simple ways to clean your ring, make it a habit to clean it regularly and your wedding ring will stay beautiful for a long, long time.
Wash it: Put a few drops of a mild liquid detergent in a bowl of warm water. Soak your wedding ring in it and then brush it gently with a soft toothbrush. Rinse in under running warm water and pat it dry with a soft, lint-free cloth. If you want it to shine, use a buffing cloth and rub it gently.
Soak it: Mix household ammonia and cold water in a 50-50 solution. Put your ring in this solution and soak it for 20 minutes. Then lift it out and brush it gently with a soft toothbrush so that the dirt and film deposits get loosened. Rinse the ring in the solution again and then air-dry it on a paper towel.
Clean it professionally: Give your wedding ring to your jeweller to clean. He will use an ultrasonic machine to clean your ring. This machine uses high frequency waves to vibrate millions of cleansing bubbles that loosen dirt and all that chemical build-up in the grooves, designs or engraving in the ring. Then a high-pressure steamer will wash away all the loosened dirt particles. The jeweller will also check the settings, the mountings if any, and make sure that no repairs are needed.
Besides cleaning your wedding ring regularly, it’s important to always protect your ring. Don’t go for a swim with it on, because chlorine and bleach are harsh on the gold. Even household chemicals and hair dye can harm your wedding ring. So take it off when you’re doing chores around the house.
Most people tend to take the wedding ring for granted, like they do their marriage. Just a bit of care and attention where both are concerned can keep the shine for years to come.
