Second marriages have become so common these days that no one is surprised any longer and there are hardly any whispers or snide remarks like one used to hear in days gone by. There are no hard and fast rules on the kind of wedding ring to be used for a second marriage, even though a veil is often avoided during a second marriage, as a veil signifies virginity. 

A couple can choose any kind of wedding ring they like. It is important, however, to keep in mind that it is often better for the couple to choose wedding rings that are not similar to those they had before. If only the man goes to buy the wedding ring, he must be aware of the kind of ring used in the bride’s previous marriage so that there is no likelihood of there being too much of a similarity.

In addition the man is often in a dilemma as he has to compete with a previous wedding ring.  This can become a sore point if the previous one was a unique and very expensive one and he may not be able to compete with it. Any sensible bride in love will be aware of the restraints of the groom’s pocket.  However, there are those who are not sensitive to this issue and in such a case it is best for the groom to have the bride to be help choose the wedding ring from a series of rings he has originally picked out.

Second wedding rings need not be traumatic for the couple. Usually the second marriage is between older and more mature couples, who hopefully are mature enough so as not to be petty.  It is quite all right for the bride to be to help choose the wedding ring and maybe get a pair of matching rings.  If she does, however want it to be a surprise, it is best that he at least have an idea of what she wants. This information can be obtained either through the bride herself or a close sister, aunt or even mother and close friends.

Attitudes between couples have changed drastically from just thirty years ago.  Most couples live together before getting married and often know what their partner’s likes and dislikes are. Couples who share an apartment are often very well aware of the likes and dislikes of a partner. Even so, it may be wise for the future second husband to talk to close friends and relatives to pick the wedding ring for that perfect second marriage.
