The Importance Of Quality Diamonds
Diamonds are said to be a girl’s best friend but whoever coined the expression forgot to add the word quality to it. Diamonds are said to have formed over three billion years ago. Diamonds are among the world’s most precious of gems and considered practically indestructible. When buying a diamond, a grading certificate is issued and this is for a particular reason. It protects the diamond as well as the buyer.
Famous diamonds have existed and continue to enthral normal mortals, whether among the Crown Jewels in the Tower of London or the Smithsonian Museum. The Cullinan, Hope and Kohinoor diamonds have been and continue to draw large crowds whenever exhibited.
A quality diamond always maintains its value and in fact its value increases with time. Maybe way back when and even today in war torn areas, diamonds are a good way of carrying something of value occupying very little space.
Diamonds are graded on the famous four Cs - carat, cut, clarity and colour. The carat is a measurement of weight equalling 1/5th of a gram. The cut can be of several types, the most common being the round, oval, emerald, pear and marquise cuts. The clarity measures the purity. Flawless diamonds are more sought though certain flaws that give colours to the diamond are considered good. Heavily flawed diamonds are not worth much. Diamonds come in many colours, the most common being white, yellow and brown.
When buying a diamond it is important to buy from a reputable dealer with a guarantee certificate. It is better to buy a better quality diamond even if it is a smaller size than to buy a larger but highly flawed stone. The value of the flawless diamond will appreciate while a heavily flawed one may well depreciate with time.
In engagement rings worn constantly, a diamond has to be of a good quality as it will be constantly open to washing, detergents, oil, dirt and grit. A good diamond will withstand all the abuse as it is hard and indestructible. A quality stone will not crack or get scratched and that is the strength of a good diamond - it is eternal. It may well be that using diamonds for engagement rings is the diamond’s eternal quality itself, to denote an eternal indestructible love bond. Good quality diamonds are indeed worth their weight in diamonds.
