Of Engagement Rings, Wedding Rings And Plumbers

Wednesday, August 10th, 2011

You’d think there would be no connection – but there is and it happens more often than you would care to think about. The number of people who have lost their engagement rings and their wedding bands down a drain or a toilet bowl are numerous and only after their carelessness do they wake up and try to retrieve them in a panic. And who better to contact than a plumber?
That’s what happened to Dominic Mormando in the US when he was called to a busy city complex to retrieve a wedding ring. His plumbing outfit has had a bit of success – of the two engagement rings that he was called in to find, he could retrieve one. At the city complex, a woman had flushed, then tried to pull off her 33-year old wedding band so she could wash her hands when it flew off and fell in and that was it! She and her husband had got married in Philadelphia all those years ago and she had worn the ring ever since.
The bill for the equipment would be around $600 so she called her husband who was worried about spending all that money, feeling that maybe a new gold band would be better as retrieving the ring wasn’t a certainty. Then Dominic knew what he had to do and he knew he had to help – after all, he had been married 22 years and he knew just how much it meant - so he started looking. There was nothing to be found so he was pulling his camera back when they saw something – it was the ring and after hours, they finally managed to get it. It was a joyful reunion with her ring and Dominic was glad to have helped.

Fire-fighters In Canada Save Wedding Rings And Wedding Photos

Tuesday, June 7th, 2011

Lighting set their home on fire and it was only when the lady of the house woke up with the thunder that she realised that there was a fire at the back of their house. She woke her husband up and when he went out the back, he realised that the heat from the fire was so intense, everything was too hot to touch. So they quickly picked up their fifteen month old baby and got out, then called 911, the fire department.

The firemen were there in a few minutes and they just got down to putting out the fire even though there was lightning still ripping across the sky. As quickly as they could, they made sure they put out the fire and the couple was very impressed at the speed and efficiency with which they worked.

Not just that, the firemen retrieved a lot of the couple’s possessions. They got their wedding rings and their wedding photos out and they also got the man’s hockey sticks out. The house was badly burned and if it hadn’t been for the firemen, they would have lost everything. The couple is also grateful to the neighbours for all their help and for giving them food and clothing.

Utah Pilot’s Titanium Wedding Ring Found

Tuesday, January 26th, 2010

It was such a tragedy when the young, twenty-eight year old pilot from Utah went down with his jet in a remote area at night and lost his life. His young widow, Josie was devastated and she wanted something of her husband’s to keep with her. She hoped that his wedding ring could have been salvaged. That was what she asked for when they told her about what happened.

Pilots are not allowed to wear their rings when they are flying so like most other pilots, George, too, used to keep his wedding band in the pocket of his flight suit. It seemed highly unlikely that it could be found but it looked like a miracle when it was. Since that was all she had asked for, a team of volunteers was pressed into the job and they recovered the ring. Today, Josie wears it on a chain around her neck.

Fergie’s Diamond Engagement Ring Joined By A Wedding Band

Wednesday, January 14th, 2009

Fergie and Josh Duhamel got married in Malibu, California on the 10th of this month, that’s just a few short days ago. Fergie’s engagement ring had been designed by H. Stern, the Brazilian designer. Their wedding rings as also the wedding accessories were designed by him too.

Her diamond engagement ring was to die for. A wonderful four-carat diamond was set in a band that was stunning in its colour scheme – the colours ranged from white right through to cognac. The wedding ring matched so well with her unusual and unique diamond engagement ring. It was a narrow wedding ring, and the designer had fashioned it out of his 18 K Noble Gold. The wedding band designed for Josh was Fergie’s idea and it had natural lines and edges that were asymmetric. Both the rings had personal messages to each other engraved on them.

An Engagement Ring-Cum-Wedding Ring?

Monday, October 27th, 2008

Is there a trend to combine the two? Ask a few jewellers around and you might just be surprised at the answer. Many young couples are seriously looking at just one ring on their finger instead of two.

Why would anyone do that? Perhaps it’s taking the road to simplicity. Rather than have two rings on the same finger, you simplify things, combine it and have just one ring. Looking at it like that, it does seem to make sense. This could be to make that one ring look much better. Let’s face it, in most cases, the wedding band is just a simple circle of gold.

So what seems to be the form this new two-in-one ring is taking? Many prefer to have a diamond at the centre with either diamonds or other stones around it or on either side. Of course, the choice of metal is entirely up to you – you can choose from platinum, traditional gold, yellow gold or white gold.

55 Year Old Diamond Engagement Ring Lost

Wednesday, October 22nd, 2008

It’s in one of the classified ads that has appeared in a US newspaper in Concord and the lady who is no doubt old, didn’t want to reveal her name. The story behind the loss is poignant however.

It all began 55 years ago – on Easter Sunday to be precise. The man had hidden a Tiffany’s yellow gold diamond engagement ring inside a wax Easter egg and it was meant to be a surprise for the young girl he wanted to marry. She obviously accepted his proposal and soon she had a yellow gold wedding band to match.

Then, 55 years later, she lost both her rings and she does not know where as she was between doctors’ appointments and hair appointments. She’s offering a reward to get her rings back and she’s devastated that after so long, they are no longer on her finger. We do hope for her sake that she does find them.

Delaware Senator Doesn’t Wear A Wedding Ring

Wednesday, September 24th, 2008

Americans are very particular about their wedding rings when it comes to politicians. So it seems a bit surprising when Delaware Senator is seen around town without his wedding ring. Especially as he has been named the prospective vice-president for the Democratic Party. Somehow, most politicians have been very conservative when it comes to wedding bands – why, even Bill Clinton always had his on.

The question being asked now is, did he ever wear a wedding ring? Considering that he has just recently been pitch forked into the limelight after Barack Obama named him running mate, suddenly everything he does, says, wears and doesn’t wear seem to have become very much in focus. Never mind that he refers to his wife as ‘drop dead gorgeous’. One wonders if this will affect his campaign and whether America will accept a vice president who is different and doesn’t toe the line of political etiquette. Maybe he just feels uncomfortable wearing a ring. Whatever the reason, right now, it is a very talked about topic.

Lost Engagement Ring Found!

Tuesday, September 9th, 2008

The lost engagement ring we wrote about two days ago has been found and Lisa Leavis is one happy woman. Lisa had been walking along the pavement outside the Jackson Gray Building in Portsmouth when she lost her rings. She didn’t realise till much later that they had fallen out of the necklace where she wore them because they didn’t fit her anymore.

Here is where Providence stepped in. John Procopio who parked his car at the Jackson Gray parking lot saw the sun catch something on the ground. When he bent down, he saw that it looked like a diamond ring. He picked it up, put it away in his pocket and went about his work. When he got home, he looked at it closely and found that it was indeed a diamond ring.

It just so happened that his wife had been reading about Lisa’s loss so when he told her about it, they straight away e-mailed Lisa. Lisa of course is delirious with joy. She’s sorry she didn’t get her wedding band back but she’s happy about her diamond engagement ring. The ring is at the jeweller’s where it’s going to be redone to fit her and she says it’s never going to leave her finger again.

There have been so many happy lost and found diamond engagement ring stories we’ve written about. We’re glad this one has a happy ending too.
