World’s Most Famous Engagement Ring Designers Being Taken Over?

Monday, October 3rd, 2011

Tiffany’s is probably the world’s best known engagement ring designers and their classic solitaire diamond ring is still the most popular design for an engagement ring. It has almost tripled its value in the past two years but it is also coming to the end of a twenty year partnership with Swatch. This termination comes sixteen years ahead of time and it leaves Tiffany’s open to a takeover bid.

Tiffany’s is a very special brand when it comes to engagement rings and diamond rings as well as a lot of other jewellery and it will mean that anyone who wants to take it over will have to pay quite a bit considering the brand value the company has. Some experts say that it could well command a 40% premium if it wanted. Considering that revenue could well go up 30% over the next couple of years, there is sure to be an interest from many buyers to try and affect a takeover. This is in the light of the company setting up many more stores in the emerging markets of Asia. In fact, the names doing the rounds are Louis Vuitton and Moet Hennessey among others.

The break up with Swatch seems to have cleared the decks for a takeover. The two companies haven’t really been doing too well together. Swatch was supposed to sell Tiffany watches but it didn’t quite work out that way and both said the other was detrimental for their own business. Tiffany’s sales in other areas have surged ahead, way beyond expectations, especially with the introduction of new lines like yellow diamond jewellery. In spite of the recession, Tiffany’s value has gone up and up and any company looking to invest in it should come up with a winner.

Sunday, June 26th, 2011

You’re in luck! If you are thinking of popping that question to the woman in your life and you’re dreading the time and effort it’s going to take you to make a decision about which ring to get her, Tiffany’s is here to help. They launched it last year but recently, there’s been a major update to the app which makes it much more convenient and easy to use.

Here’s what the Tiffany’s app can do. It’s called the Tiffany’s Engagement Ring Finder by the way. It has been designed to help you select a ring from their collection using your smartphone. Now is that easy or not? With this app, you can create your own Facebook page and put up all the rings that you have selected so you can get friends’ and family’s opinion. With the app, you can view the ring from so many angles so you know exactly how it’s going to look. This means, you can take a good look at all the diamond ring designs before you decide to buy. And all this, in the comfort of your own home.

The new app will be available to users in the middle of July. So if you are thinking of proposing and want to rid yourself of the hassles of choosing a ring, maybe you should hold your horses and pop the question after that date.

Tiffany’s Give Expert Online Advice On Engagement Rings And Romance

Sunday, June 5th, 2011

Tiffany’s, the leading jeweller known for their diamond engagement rings have now set up a website to help romance around the world take the right steps. After all, they do have 175 years of experience – of watching couples come into their stores and choose rings that will keep them together, hopefully forever. For so many years, if it was an engagement ring, it had to be Tiffany’s and even the classic solitaire diamond ring that is the most preferred ring is their design.

So what is this website like? It’s called whatmakeslovetrue.com and it has four sections. The first is a collection of love stories and real life incidents that are woven around Tiffany pieces of jewellery, usually an engagement ring. The second section is all about tips for romance and it gives a person a lot of advice on how to go about making a romance work and making love last. It goes further and even talks about family, its importance and how to manage money so that it does not become a cause of friction in the relationship. The third section is about the store – so much a part of New York and the last is a section where readers can write in about anything connected to these themes.

Tiffany’s, as we said, is such a part of the Big Apple and it even inspired the Audrey Hepburn film, Breakfast At Tiffany’s. Now, this old, traditional jewellery store is changing too and getting savvy online, though they still hold on to their history and traditions of the years.

Tiffany Engagement Ring Rescued By Diver

Sunday, July 18th, 2010

It was a rescue operation at its best. Who would have thought that a tiny little ring could be found at the bottom of the lake? But it was and here’s the story of how it happened.

A teacher from Minneapolis, USA had just got engaged last month and she and her fiancĂ© were at this lake boating. All she did was to put on some sunscreen and she just slipped the ring off while she did it so she could keep the oiliness away from the ring. To keep it very safe, so she thought, she held the ring in her mouth but it just slipped and fell out – into the water and all the way down to the bottom of the lake. Everyone jumped in and tried to find it but the water just got very muddy and their search was in vain.

So they had to get help and they succeeded in getting expert help – an experienced diver from the neighbourhood who has been treasure-hunting in lakes for years. For three whole days, he scoured the lake bed with a metal detector and he finally found it, buried three inches in sand right at the bottom. What wonderful news for the young couple – they were so thrilled, they gave him a good reward. Sara, the girl, says she’s never taking it ff her finger ever again.

Tiffany And The New Engagement Ring iPhone App

Monday, June 14th, 2010

From today, all iPhone users can download a new app which lets you browse through engagement ring styles, help you find your ring finger size and look through all the diamond cuts and shapes. If you see something you like, you save it and then share in on your favourite social networking site.

Now this is a case of tradition keeping pace with technology. It’s also a great way for a girl to hint to the guy about the kind of engagement ring she would like. Of course, this could backfire if the guy is not interested in getting married but if he were, think of the relief if he could get a peek into what you might like, not to mention the ring size. All he needs to do even if he wants it to be a surprise is to put one of your rings onto the iPhone screen and he’ll know the size.

It’s a great new app and one cannot help thinking just how ubiquitous the mobile phone has become in our life. Even choosing an engagement ring becomes so much easier now!

Tiffany’s Diamond Engagement Rings Cut And Polished In Africa

Monday, October 26th, 2009

Tiffany’s has decided to move backwards in the diamond chain. Ever since the demand for diamonds surged earlier in this decade, the retailer has been making plans to source, cut and polish its own diamonds so that it will not be at the mercy of middlemen. They have, thus far, set up units in many parts of the world. The one in Botswana, Africa, has around eighty workers in a factory without windows. The workers are not trained fully as yet and they need constant attention to make sure they are doing things right.

However, this is the way Tiffany wants it, even though it has to cope with very low productivity, labour costs that are pretty high and the prospect of their workers staging sit-ins. The problem is, should a high end retailer really go all the way back to the sourcing, cutting and polishing stage when they are not really equipped to do so? Especially when they don’t have the necessary expertise in these areas? Tiffany’s however, defends their strategy, claiming to be building up stocks with lower costs for when the demand goes up again.

Tiffany Classic Diamond Rings Now At Selfridges In Manchester

Friday, October 16th, 2009

This is Tiffany’s first foray out of London in the UK. This month, Manchester became the first city outside the capital to have an outlet set up in Selfridges by the 172-year old jewellers. On the ground floor of the Selfridges at Exchange Square, you’ll find this new boutique, glittering with an array of beautiful jewellery and the classic and elegant diamond engagement rings they are famous for are very much in evidence.

The boutique is spread over a huge space and it’s a great place to buy or just browse through. It seems to have been a great idea to house it in the Selfridges environment. The items go all the way from gift items to jewellery pieces that connoisseurs will love. All of course, have that unmistakable Tiffany touch.

Tiffany Diamond Engagement Rings In The Land Of Tulips

Saturday, March 21st, 2009

That’s what Tiffany’s is going to do – open a store in Amsterdam. Will they be tip toeing through the tulips to do that? Well, the company has just announced its plans and the new store will probably open its doors to the Dutch public in autumn this year.

The store will be located in the prestigious shopping area of the capital city and it will be housed in Hooftstraat in a historic building. While the old façade will be maintained, the interiors will be very modern and in line with the brushed stainless steel look of its other stores. It will have an array of diamond jewellery from engagement rings to exquisite jewellery set in gold, silver and platinum. It will also include jewellery and accessories of signature designs.

The store will probably be one in a long line of European Tiffany stores that are being envisaged.

55 Year Old Diamond Engagement Ring Lost

Wednesday, October 22nd, 2008

It’s in one of the classified ads that has appeared in a US newspaper in Concord and the lady who is no doubt old, didn’t want to reveal her name. The story behind the loss is poignant however.

It all began 55 years ago – on Easter Sunday to be precise. The man had hidden a Tiffany’s yellow gold diamond engagement ring inside a wax Easter egg and it was meant to be a surprise for the young girl he wanted to marry. She obviously accepted his proposal and soon she had a yellow gold wedding band to match.

Then, 55 years later, she lost both her rings and she does not know where as she was between doctors’ appointments and hair appointments. She’s offering a reward to get her rings back and she’s devastated that after so long, they are no longer on her finger. We do hope for her sake that she does find them.

A Year Of Lost And Found Diamond Engagement Rings

Friday, August 29th, 2008

A Lotto ticket wasn’t very lucky for Liza Pham. In Tracy, California, Liza walked into a Save Mart store to buy a Lotto ticket, hoping that luck would come her way. As luck would have it, she left the store losing something precious – her diamond engagement ring and wedding ring set from Tiffany’s. She searched high and low and even tried hypnotherapy just to try and remember where she could have lost them but to no avail.

However, good fortune smiled on her when one of the store’s baggers saw the diamond engagement ring just outside the store and gave it to the store manager for safekeeping. When no one came forward to claim it, they took it to Tiffany’s because it had the jeweller’s name and a serial number engraved inside. It was then that Liza came back to the store to see if anything had turned up and was overjoyed to find her diamond engagement ring. She didn’t recover her wedding ring sadly but her expensive diamond engagement ring is on her finger again! It seems to be a year of engagement rings being lost and found again!

Tiffany And Its Exclusive Diamond Engagement Rings Go Down Under Once More!

Saturday, July 26th, 2008

It was the usual exclusive Tiffany’s opening – Breakfast at Tiffany’s with caviar laid out and champagne flowing and everyone who was everyone was there on the morning of July the 24th. It was a red letter day for Perth which didn’t have a Tiffany store till now and it looks like it’s going to be the start of an affair to remember. The early morning event didn’t stop the designer dresses and the bling being paraded.

There was one little difference. Way before all those socialites could arrive, a couple in Perth were let into the store. They took a tour and at the end of it, were given a gift bag. It was only when Shane Lehmann went down on his knees that his girlfriend, Caroline realised that the bag contained a diamond engagement ring. Could she really say anything else but ‘Yes!’? What a truly romantic way to open a store that has for so many years been the destination for couples in love to pick out diamond engagement rings and wedding bands.

The jewellery that was displayed was positively stunning and the store was a welcome addition to King Street in Perth which is a strip of every international luxury retail store imaginable. In this booming mining town, a Tiffany’s just had to have a presence. This is a city that oozes sophistication and positively reeks of the fragrance of wealth. Just the right setting for Tiffany’s, wouldn’t you say, with its dazzling diamond rings and its exclusive jewellery? The Mayor of the city said she was proud that Tiffany’s had opened in Perth finally – after all, the city with its multi-faceted nature and its shining performance, could well and truly be compared to the rarest of stones, the diamond!
