Sri Lankan Exports Jump Thanks To Royal Engagement Ring

Friday, December 2nd, 2011

It was great for Sri Lanka that the Duchess of Cambridge accepted the sapphire and diamond ring because what a rush of orders it has seen since then! As soon as the engagement was announced, way before the wedding, that royal engagement ring became the most famous ring ever. There were so many duplicates made all over the world, some of them selling for a song. However, there were many other wannabes who wanted the real thing and sapphires and diamonds became the order of the day for many when it came to engagement rings.

The Sri Lankan jewellery trade did a very good marketing campaign soon after the engagement and this saw a spurt in the export of gemstones from the country. There was a huge demand for sapphires from the Gulf countries and it was as though they couldn’t get enough of these beautiful blue stones. According to the Sri Lankan National Gem and Jewellery Authority, exports went up 37% to cross £49 million.

For Sri Lanka, this is a huge boost because the country has been struggling to cope because civil war has been raging there for so many years. China has helped out by financial port building and measures are being looked at to increase exports. With the royal engagement ring making Sri Lankan gems popular thanks to the famous sapphire having been mined there, things seem to look rosy as far as exports go for the tiny island country.

Chinese Jewellery Factories Rake It In With Replica Engagement Rings

Saturday, April 23rd, 2011

The royal wedding has turned out to be such an unbelievable business opportunity for many of China’s jewellery stores. So many are laughing all the way to the bank because the sales of the sapphire and diamond ring look alikes are unprecedented. So for them, it’s a lot more than just a love story that has captured the world’s imagination and hearts. It’s a love story that has brought them huge business. In fact, it’s one event where they actually underestimated demand.

Just one factory, owned by Zhou Mingwang has sold more than a hundred thousand replicas. Just shows the entrepreneurial spirit of the Chinese because from this country, the replica rings are sent all over the world to feed the frenzy of the demand for these look alike rings. Besides sales of the rings, many companies are giving them away as gifts or promotions in order to boost the sales of their products. With the fast spread of globalisation in China, they now know exactly what the demands are for and they come up with answers and supplies before any other country can. No wonder they have such a frontrunner advantage in the manufacturing of so many goods. Little wonder that any global event sees them making huge business fortunes.

Other items that are also being made in Chinese manufacturing units are a lot of other paraphernalia with the royal couple’s images – like mugs, souvenirs, clothing, flags, etc. The strange thing is, the Chinese people are not swayed by all the hype of a global event – whether it is sport or an event like this. They rarely buy souvenirs to commemorate these events but they do know how to cash in on it and to manufacture and export these items.

Two Platinum Beads For Royal Engagement Ring

Saturday, April 16th, 2011

Kate Middleton’s finger is obviously a bit too slender for the ring of rings that has been the inspiration for so many jewellers and designers today. The famous sapphire and diamond ring which belonged to the late Princess Diana had been slipping around her finger and she was terrified in case it slipped off and she lost it. It doesn’t even bear thinking about.

So she approached the jewellers, G Collins & Sons to come up with a solution. Instead of getting the engagement ring resized, the jewellers came up with a wonderful idea – putting in two platinum beads which were fixed to the inside of the ring so it stops the ring from turning around on the finger or slipping off. It’s a lot better to adjust the ring so it stays firm on the finger and feels comfortable without having to turn it around all the time so the stones stay in front.

According to jewellery experts, this is a common problem with rings that have heavy stones in them. They tend to keep twisting around on the finger if they don’t fit absolutely perfectly and this can be annoying as well as uncomfortable. This is why fixing platinum beads on the inside is such a good idea because it just keeps the ring in place and there is no need to adjust or resize the band. In this case, the huge sapphire as well as all those diamonds around it must be heavy to manage if the fit is not perfect. Well, it hopefully is now and when she walks down that aisle, we’re hoping that ring feels that a part of her.
