A platinum and diamond ring was stolen from a jeweller in Crowthorne and it was valued at over £3,000. The staff at the store said that two men walked in to look at jewellery, created some amount of confusion which distracted the staff and made off with the ring. One said he wanted to look at bracelets for a present for Valentine’s Day while the second said he wanted something to give his girlfriend as her birthday was coming up. Then he corrected himself and said he was thinking of getting engaged.

The staff was so confused that they didn’t realise when the two of them walked out without buying anything that they had taken the ring. They only realised it when they saw the empty ring pad where the platinum trilogy ring had been. Quite a change from burglars entering stores and robbing at gunpoint.

They were engaged sixty years ago and then they lost touch and though both loved each other, fate kept them apart. They both married others but never forgot each other. Till one day, 60 years later, they got in touch with each other over the Internet, reconnected and got married.

Then tragedy struck this romantic old couple in America. When she came back to her hometown to pack and move in with him in Los Angeles, he disappeared without a trace. Till now, his body has not been found. While she suspects foul play because he was well off, his children say that maybe he just went away because he felt shocked by what he had done on an impulse. For her, it’s a double tragedy as she sits waiting for news of him – wearing her new white gold wedding ring and her 60 year old platinum diamond engagement ring which has never left her possession.

There’s a huge diamond ring which will be showcased next week by Sotheby’s in New York. It is 29.53 carats and a flawless D-colour stone. It is going to be the centrepiece of their jewellery sale and it is expected to sell for £1.1 to £1.4 million. The diamond is pear-shaped and in the ring, it is flanked by a pair of heart-shaped diamonds. The ring is made of platinum.

There are a great many other spectacular jewellery pieces also on display and sale at this show. The pieces are by David Webb, Van Cleef, Bulgari, Arpels and Tiffany. For collectors, this is a show that is going to be full of unique jewellery pieces and there are many white diamond rings as well as coloured diamond rings for sale, many under 10 carats. The sale will be on October 19 in New York.

Even if you could afford it, when it comes to rings that you need to wear on your fingers for a long time – hopefully till the day you die, it might be a good thing to think practically and look for a bit of balance. For example, a huge rock for an engagement ring might not go too well with a wedding ring that is very large and showy too. One might detract from the other or worse, it might clash and the whole effect could just be an eyesore.

A balance could be sought for with size, the metal used and the design. The ideal way would be to pick up an engagement ring and a wedding ring as a set. It’s strange how people adapt – well, so do jewellers. In times when disposable incomes are less than they used to be, there’s a new fad going around – designing new diamond rings with old diamonds. This just saves so much money and while you can have a diamond, you don’t pay for it – just the setting.

The diamonds can be from any old diamond ring that you have, it can be an heirloom where the setting is something that is too heavy or something you don’t like. It can be just another diamond ring because you’re tired of your old one, it can be an anniversary ring, a diamond ring gift or even an engagement ring. A ring like this will be unique because you have designed it. And it will be at a price that most people can afford. It’s also a great idea for engagement rings that belonged to mothers or grandmothers, resetting an engagement ring if you have lost your husband or are divorced and even if you’ve never really liked a particular setting. You can even change the metal to make it look absolutely different - choose from yellow gold, white gold or platinum. A new diamond ring at a great price – what a great idea!

George Sydlar was eating out at a Chinese restaurant and he removed his platinum wedding ring to wash his hands. Putting them in his pocket, he forgot to put them back on. He then went to a store to buy lottery tickets. When he got home, he realised his ring was missing. This ex-policeman from New Jersey, USA was saddened by his loss and even went to jewellers in and around that area to see if the ring has surfaced somewhere there. This of course was after he had looked all over the restaurant and store for it. He was quite sure that if someone had found it, they would try and sell it.

Much to his amazement, an employee in the store had found the ring and turned it in. He had put it aside on the counter of the store hoping that the owner of the ring would come back for it. After a few days when George went back to the store, taking a chance that maybe it had turned up, there it was, waiting for him. The person who had found it no longer worked at the shop but it was a great feeling finding his ring.

Jean Dousset of Beverly Hills, California has designed engagement rings for many of the celebrities in Hollywood. His will be the first celebrity designer store on eBay and the news is that it will be a range that is affordable but of good quality. Jean Dousset felt it was a need that needed to be filled as high fashion designers were not to be found on eBay.

His online store will be up by autumn and it will sell only the best quality diamonds, each one handcrafted into an engagement ring. His range will also include wedding bands and diamond earrings. So in effect, what customers will be getting is high quality diamonds at good prices. The jewellery is made in platinum and rhodium plated white gold.

Exactly when the wedding took place is a matter of debate but it was probably last week in Vegas. Fred announced it to the world in a rather unusual way – he tweeted the information. Well, that was great news to spread like wildfire over Twitter.

The wedding rings were Neil Lane designer rings and they were made of diamonds and platinum. Obviously Fred Durst and Esther Nazarov are very happy – he also posted a photograph where they were both toasting the happy occasion with mojitos. Fred had announced to the world – again on Twitter in April when they got engaged - that they would be getting married in July. The engagement ring was also by Neil Lane and the whole world could see it because he had uploaded that on Twitter too.
