So Anne Hathaway is finally engaged and she and her fiancé Adam Shulman were spotted strolling together in a park with their dog. The actress confirmed her engagement a couple of days ago. The couple have been together for three years but they have been very quiet and private about it. It was only after a year of them being together that the media got a whiff of the way things were.
Anne Hathaway looked so happy as she kissed Adam and showed off her dazzling new diamond ring. The 6 carat platinum diamond engagement ring had Adam pitching in on the design too and it is said to have cost over £95,000. The ring was commissioned to be made by Kwait Heritage, the jewellery company. Adam is also co-owner in a jewellery line and he has some experience of designing jewellery.
Anne Hathaway has made a name for herself in Hollywood – from the Princess Diaries to Alice in Wonderland to The Devil Wears Prada to Brokeback Mountain – she’s a gorgeous actress who has made her name in the best of movies. She has acted alongside the top stars in Hollywood and her next release is a lead role in the next Batman movie. Adam Shulman too is an actor, having acted in The Dukes of Hazzard, The West Wing and American Dream. He seems to be a calm influence on her – something she needs after the break up with her previous partner who was arrested for fraud. She looks very happy with him and with life.

Sportsmen who play with their wedding rings on are few and far between. However, American Buffalo Bills footballer of the NFL keeps his wedding ring on, no matter what. He says in the five and a half years that he has been married, he hasn’t taken off his ring for anything. Not when he plays nor has a shower or even when he had to change diapers.
Most players take their wedding rings off and leave them at home or in their lockers but not Ryan Fitzpatrick. In this game, quarterbacks like him are especially careful to make sure their wedding ring is off while they are playing but he does not see the need for it and continues wearing it. What helps of course, is the fact that he wears the ring on his left hand and throws with his right so it does not put too much pressure on his left hand. He also says that he isn’t really making a statement here or trying to bring the issue to the forefront. For him, it is something personal and he feels that for him, it should stay on. His platinum wedding ring has the date of the wedding inscribed on it and to date, has fitted him well and has not needed any resizing.
Should a player wear his wedding band always or not? It really is each one’s decision. Most players take it off to avoid the risk of injury and when it comes to injury, many wives would probably tell their sports person husbands that it does not matter. Some wear a rubber band in place of the wedding ring to signify that they are married and some just leave the wedding ring off for the length of the game. One player says that he leaves it off and with it, he stops being a husband and becomes a monster on the field so he feels it is all right to keep it off for that period.

According to a jeweller, the tracking of recent jewellery sales has revealed that what are trending really well are rose gold and diamonds that are chocolate or canary coloured. Suddenly, there seems to be a very strong and rising interest in diamond rings that are different – from the colour of the metal used to the colour of the diamonds. Of course, what remains constant is the fact that people still want gold and they still want diamonds when it comes to diamonds rings. However, they want a diamond ring that is different and they are willing to pay more – maybe even a lot more – for it.
Why rose gold? Are platinum and white gold losing their sheen or is it just a fashion statement to have a different colour metal for a ring? Whatever it is, rose gold seems to be the flavour of the season together with diamonds that are brown or yellow – or to give them their fancy names – chocolate or canary diamonds. Diamond engagement rings with these combinations seem to be really popular and the women seem to love the unique and different look, while still feeling good that they are wearing diamonds – after all, in a woman’s mind, they are forever. The brown diamonds dazzle with a rich colour and the yellow ones sparkle with brilliance. It isn’t as thought people only choose rose gold as a setting as some prefer white gold but the trending seems to show more and more rose gold choices than before. This seems to extend to other jewellery like earrings, necklaces and wedding bands too.
The kind of diamonds that were the most popular are the round ones and the princess cut diamonds. The designs also seem to be getting more intricate and artistic. It looks like people are spending a lot of time deciding on what kind of jewellery they want. Is the shifting trend just a passing one or will it be around for a while? In the fickle changing world of fashion, one never knows. What one can say, however is that gold and diamonds – in whatever hue – are going to be around for a long, long time.

What is the most popular metal for wedding rings? A survey that was done by a store recently had some very interesting findings that popped up. Apparently, Greater Manchester people prefer white gold while people in London prefer platinum. And in Cambridge, the most popular metal is yellow gold. The study shows that from an overview, it looks like the most popular metal in the UK is white gold while coming second is platinum and then yellow gold.
For those who feel that platinum is the ruling metal today for engagement rings and wedding rings, this might come as a bit of an eye-opener. When did white gold creep into first place? And does the place you are from really have so much to do with the metal you pick? Looks that way from the survey. Considering that for years, yellow gold was a given for wedding rings, maybe the time had come for a move away for it. However, maybe tradition does play a big part so while people might move away, they still want it to be gold when it comes to wedding rings. Whatever the reason, this seems to be the trend today.
Wedding rings are so important because it means rings for both the man and his bride. While the engagement ring is all about the woman, wedding rings have something that say ‘couple’ about them. The trend today is to have matching wedding rings whenever possible and when it means wedding rings for both the man and the woman, maybe white gold makes perfect sense. The tradition of gold and yet it looks different – something that both men and women could be comfortable in.

There have been record sales of diamond rings especially at the New York auction of Christie’s last week. Suddenly, there seems to be a renewed interest in the auction of jewellery and in this one, diamond rings were the ones that seemed to draw the most bids. In fact, two of them were sold for over £60,000. In all, the auction pulled in sales of nearly £7 million.
There were two rings that were the stars of the auction. The first was a diamond ring with an over-46 carat diamond in the centre and with two one-carat diamonds which were pear-shaped on either side. The ring was set in platinum. The second was also a diamond and platinum ring and the diamond in the centre was over 10 carats and this too was flanked by two small pear-shaped diamonds.
The other diamond rings that were sold were a colourless 10 carat diamond ring and a yellow diamond ring where the stone was an emerald cut one, surrounded by two diamonds which were trillion cut. Also sold were a pair of yellow diamond earrings where the stones were square cut and set in platinum and gold. This auction seems to have heralded in a great season for Christie’s.

The price rise seems to have hit all metals and it is not just the price of gold that is flying through the roof. Whatever the precious metal that most people use for engagement rings and wedding rings, the prices are going up, up, up, be it gold, silver, platinum, tungsten or titanium. Which is perhaps why many couples are thinking twice before rushing into an engagement or marriage.
Why is this happening? Economists feel that it’s because the dollar is weakening and people who want to invest and beat inflation are putting their money into these precious metals. Add that to the deficit that a lot of countries, especially in the Western world, are facing and you’ll see why metals are so attractive to anyone who is in the financial business.
So where does that leave couples who wish to get married? Considering there’s a royal wedding on today, more couples will surely want to tie the knot as well in the near future. It’s like engagements and marriages are in the very air we breathe. However, with a tight budget, this might have to be postponed by many because the costs of engagement rings and wedding bands are steadily increasing. With most jewellers having put their prices up, there’s little a couple with a limited spending capacity can do buy wait and hope that the tide turns.

India has not been a potential diamond market though most of the diamonds pass through this country to be cut and polished. However, recent trends have seen a surge in demand for diamond jewellery and the new diamond brands with innovative and young designs are raking it in.
India has for long been a gold market but with the population becoming younger, there seems to be a change in old habits and attitudes, Today’s couples are looking at platinum when it comes to engagement rings and of course, diamonds. Economists feel that in a couple of years, India could well be buying up 10% of the world’s diamonds. Today, the diamond demand in India is pegged at over £12 million and it looks like one can safely predict a lot of growth.
This could be due to more than just the age demographics – it could also be due to the fact that the economy is booming and there is a lot more disposable income when it comes to the younger generation. Urbanisation and the consumer bug have bitten a lot of people, it seems, all over the country and it seems to be reflected in the diamond jewellery sales. Even the rising process of gold and platinum do not seem to be a deterrent in the surge in sales.

There have been so many daring thefts of jewellery all over the world but the one that took place at the Tiffany’s store in Paris recently took the cake. It was done with a minimum amount of fuss, the shop people still can’t believe it happened. There are times when a theft comes along with knives, guns and violence. Not so here because it was done very deftly and the salesmen and women were left realising that they had been cleverly duped.
Just how was it done? Three men had walked into a store to look at jewellery and they were intent on a platinum ring with a three carat diamond. The diamond ring was worth £220,000 and it is still amazing how they managed to walk out of that store without any fuss. What they did was to pretend that they had chosen the ring, then ask for the certificate of authenticity. While the sales person went to get the certificate copied, the three men walked out of the shop casually and were not even stopped by the security personnel at the door.
One of the men had showed the sales person his passport before he went off to get a photocopy. This Tiffany counter was at the Paris department store called Printemps and a more daring robbery in Paris in the springtime is yet to be seen. While the store personnel are pretty quiet about the incident and seem to be keeping their mouths shut to the media, sources say that the authorities are looking at the video surveillance tapes for any kind of clues they can gather.

Casey Stoner surprised his wife with a diamond ring and the 22-year old baby faced motorbike racer guy did it to replace the much cheaper engagement ring he bought Adriana, his wife, when he proposed. He just wanted to get her a piece of bling that was more expensive than the modest one he had got her earlier. He went to Max Langley and ordered the diamond ring a little before Christmas and though he first looked at another ring, he came back to order a classic design.
The diamond engagement ring is worth £25,000 and the design looks like a Bulgari design. It looks like it is a round diamond set in platinum and his wife was so thrilled by the unexpected gift. What a great Christmas gift to receive! He also got her little nephew a cycle.
Stoner is very shy and he doesn’t talk to the media so a lot of exactly what the ring looks like is guesswork. The couple met when Adriana asked him to autograph her stomach seven years ago and they fell in love and got married in 2005. Stoner has been racing from the time he was four and his next big race is in Qatar in March.

It looks like 2011 is going to be a great year for royal weddings. Zara Phillips and her Mike Tindall got engaged last month when after seven years of being together, he proposed to her with a platinum and diamond ring. Yes, she showed off her engagement ring to the media but it was very apparent that the engagement was sudden and they did pose for some pictures together – though not in the usual planned way.
Mike is a rugby player and the couple live away from the madding crowd in Gloucestershire and it looks like they will time their wedding with Prince William’s and Kate’s. So will they sell the rights to the pictures in a huge deal very much like her brother’s? Quite possible, feel many – and why not, considering the deal could well be in the region of £1 million? The couple’s publicity is Jupiter Sports unlike the other royals and that is probably because Princess Anne refused the money for her from the Civil List when she refused the royal title.
Zara makes a lot of money as a brand sponsor and her name is linked with some of the biggest and most lucrative brands. However, they have their expenses with huge stables and a home they have just done up so who can blame them if they make some money on publicity deals? After all, they will only be giving the public and the media what they want.

Well, you have it there – platinum is the metal of choice for diamond rings in Hollywood. Most of tinsel town’s celebrities are opting for platinum diamond rings for both wedding rings and engagement rings. From Penelope Cruz to Megan Fox to Nicole Ritchie, it’s been platinum and diamonds all the way.
Why platinum? It could be because the white metal goes with every outfit you wear – gold doesn’t. It could also be because platinum tends to show off the stone better and makes it seem more dazzling. Many of them are also wearing eternity diamond and platinum bands.
The thing is, the diamond can be any cut or shape or design – platinum and diamonds are still a hot favourite. So you’ll find pear-shaped ones, the more popular round ones, square-cut ones, pave designs – and they all shine and dazzle in platinum.
