On New Year’s Eve, Johnny got married and he now wears a wedding ring. He got married to a lawyer named Victor Voronov and they came together to their press conference as newlyweds for the first time. It was at this press conference that he announced that he was getting back into figure skating on a competitive basis and that he would be very much a part of the 2014 Sochi Olympics.
The diamond wedding ring sparkled on his finger and he flaunted it. It is a gold ring with a band of gold and on either side, there is a row of sparkling diamonds. What a bit of bling for a wedding ring. He happily posed for pictures and made sure the ring was very visible so the media people could get some really great shots of it.
Johnny Weir is a figure skater from America who has been champion for three years nationally and has won third place in the international competitive figure skating championships four years ago, He has won a number of awards and was junior international champion ten years ago. He began to skate when he was twelve and he has been in most of the major tournaments since then. His fans helped an asteroid to be named after him. He came out of the closet a few years ago and is now married and they will both have the surname Weir-Voronov. He has had a book published and has even recorded a single which has been released.

It looks like loose diamonds will have another hub soon and that is going to be Bahrain. There are some very ambitious plans in the pipeline to make this city a diamond hub and the Chamber of Commerce is talking to the Gemmological Institute in the USA to get them to set up a GIA office there.
There is a GIA office in Dubai but the people in Bahrain feel that the place is better situated in order to cater to the demand in the Gulf region. So loose diamonds would be brought into Bahrain and then sent out to the other places from there. This would be especially convenient for the cities in Saudi Arabia where there is a great demand for diamonds to make diamond rings and diamond jewellery. For this, customs duties for both importing and sending out the diamonds will have to be looked at in order to make the proposition a viable one. Today, there are traders who deal in rough diamonds but there is no official GIA office through which loose diamonds can be brought in and sold.
Bahrain holds the Jewellery Arabia Expo which attracts a lot of people who want to buy gold, diamonds and other precious stones. They get a number of buyers from the Gulf region as well as Yemen, Afghanistan and Sudan. Granted, when there was trouble in Bahrain, it upset the gold trade there but it has put that behind it and come back stronger and more willing to be a strong presence in the gold and diamond markets again.

The Oppenheimer family has sold out its stake in De Beers to Anglo American and so ends an era. This was the family that was responsible, almost single-handedly for adding the glamour to diamonds and for the huge advertising campaign that pitched diamonds as the best gems for engagement rings because it was forever. One would have thought that their interest in the South African diamond mines would also be forever but it was not to be.
In times of the financial crisis engulfing the world and in discord within the growing family, it looks like the dynasty has decided to throw in the towel and get out of the business that began largely due to their effort. Considering their roots are in South Africa, it is likely that a huge part of the amount of money that they will be receiving will be reinvested right there and sources say that it looks like they are going to start a private equity joint venture fund. The family still lives on the family estate that was built in 1922 and their history has been entwined with that of South Africa’s. It was here that British Prime Minister Harold Wilson stayed when he came to give the speech to the South African parliament.
The move comes in the wake of a family feud that has raged for years with some members feeling that it was time to pull out and not pump in money into De Beers which went through a very bad patch, especially three years ago. Borrowing money to put into the company meant that their own inheritance decreased a lot and this is what some of the family members were objecting to. The debts have been piling up and things came to a head and the sale was done. The family still has a 2% stake in the company but it is to be seen whether the new company will keep an Oppenheimer on in the top post.

The New York auction of the famous Christie’s was extremely good but one item did not fly off the auction table – a ten-carat diamond that has an unusual purple-pink colour. The estimated pre-auction price was somewhere between £7 and £9 million. The fancy diamond was the biggest attraction in this time’s auction.
However, diamonds of every other hue seem to have sold very well, whether they were white, blue, yellow or pink. The highest amount that was paid at the auction was for a 37 carat white colourless diamond. A vivid blue diamond which was over 3 carats and a vivid pink diamond which was 6.61 carats were also popular and sold quickly.
Other items worthy of mention were two sapphire rings – one over ten carats and the other over 40 carats. It is incredible how quickly sapphires are disappearing off the shelves after the royal engagement took place. These rings were a Kashmir art deco sapphire ring and a Burmese cushion cut sapphire and diamond ring. The sales seem to have been quite brisk and overall, it was a good auction. Maybe the organisers were a bit disappointed that their start diamond didn’t sell but they seem to be taking it in their stride and feeling good about the others that were sold.

The two big names have launched Modern Bride, a range of jewellery that any modern bride would love to have. It is an exclusive range of jewellery and it gives the US buyers the trust and quality that these two names stand for. They call it a very comprehensive range and they feel that the designs target the modern young woman of today. However, the line also has a timeless feel about it.
For example, the engagement ring is very often something that the couple shops for together today and the bridal shopping is also done often with friends and family. So, to cater to this, the stores have a lot of the brand’s in-store material and the whole range is set at the back of jewellery stores to give the couple a very intimate feeling. For additional styles and designing, couples will be able to do so on an iPad provided by the store so they can get just the engagement ring they want. So much planning and pride goes into an engagement ring which most couples want to be unique and which they treasure for a long time.
The salespeople undergo very special training so they can give good, professional advice to couples when they are choosing their engagement rings. They will be trained to provide useful ideas about a diamond’s cut, carat, size as well as the metal that will be the best for the design. They will also be trained on trends and fashions so that they can give people who are shopping the best insights. Most importantly, they will be trained to de-mystify jewellery terms so that couples understand exactly what they are buying and will be educated on what to look for.

The last in the Twilight Saga, Breaking Dawn is being shot and Kristen Stewart was seen wearing the ring she was given in the previous movie, Eclipse. The film is being shot in Brazil, in Rio de Janeiro where the couple in the movie goes to for their honeymoon. The series has generated so much interest and people who read and loved the book seem to feel that the movie has captured the spirit of the book, something that is rather hard to do.
The ring was described so beautifully in the book so much so that there was a rush among fans of the book to go and buy the rings that were being sold in the same design. The wedding ring that the vampire hero, Edward Cullen gave Bella, the heroine was a beautiful diamond ring that belonged to his mother. Stephanie Meyers, the author of the book had described it as a narrow gold band that made a delicate wed around rows of round glittering diamonds.
We also heard Robert Pattison who plays Edward’s part was ever the gentleman on the sets, helping Kristen along in her high heels which must have made the shooting very tiring. In real life too, they are a couple which makes the romantic series even more interesting for their fans.

It seems to have caught on in a big way. From matching rings, now it’s stacking rings and there are many couples who just seem to love the idea. The great thing about these rings is that they can be personalised and can become quite unique. The concept isn’t absolutely new but it has made a comeback after being popular in the 70s and 80s. What began as a fad with silver and semi-precious stones is now becoming popular with gold and diamonds.
The rings can be stacked any which way you want and you can wear it as one or the whole set depending on your mood and what you are wearing. They are available in the very high end price range too with platinum and diamonds. Jewellers are experimenting with colourless as well as coloured diamonds.
Some of the jewellers are using visuals or stacking rolls to show the many different ways the stacking rings can be worn. There’s so much that can be done with stacking rings and it just makes wearing rings a lot more exciting. Each time you wear it, it can look different and new and maybe that’s why so many women are getting hooked onto this new idea.

Crystal Bowersox, the runner up in last season’s American Idol has always made it plain that she loves going the environment-friendly route in life. So it’s no surprise that she added some green touches to her wedding too, which took place last week. The weekend wedding was a beautiful ceremony which, though elaborate, was organised keeping in mind that environmental friendly touches were necessary.
First off, when it came to her wedding dress, she chose to wear a hemp and cotton creation which was sewn over with macramé work and seashells. We hear it looked beautiful and earthy. Then came the wedding rings where they chose not to have any diamonds on them because she doesn’t approve of the way the diamond trade is run. She probably hasn’t heard of conflict free diamonds but it is her choice, after all.
The wedding rings have a few symbols on them There is the infinity 8 which stands for forever, the masonry symbol, the ‘om’ symbol in Sanskrit and a special symbol to denote ‘3’. The 3 stands for her, Brian and her one-year old son by her former boyfriend who she broke up with because their relationship could not stand the strain of the America Idol events and the crazy schedules that followed.

Think about it – you have a ring you’ve inherited and you want it reset. With the advanced technology available today, all you need to do is to use a design programme and get the ring set with a new look. That’s what Adam MacKellar did when he wanted to propose to his girlfriend. He had her grandmother’s wedding ring and he used the CAD/CAM programme to design not just her engagement ring but also her wedding ring with the diamonds there.
A jewellery store in Glasgow offers this service and it really is ideal because it means that the sentimental value of the diamonds are preserved and the setting is modern so it’s like you have a new ring. In this case, Abigail’s grandmother is old and in a home but the memories now live on because the ring has got a new life in a new avatar. Adam surprised her with the engagement ring and she was really thrilled to wear the diamonds that belonged to her grandmother.
Of course, there’s the added advantage of the price of the rings being much less than if Adam had bought them. The jewellery store has just got this design software and all the customer has to do is to go in there with their requirements and details of what they already have to design a new piece of jewellery in 3-D. It’s a great way of recycling jewellery and of not having to spend too much ion new engagement rings.

Will she or won’t she leave him must be the million dollar question everyone is asking. Is she going to take a leaf out of Tiger Woods’ ex-wife’s book and up and go? It looks like Coleen hasn’t made up her mind yet and everyone, including Wayne Rooney must be waiting for her decision with bated breath.
She was seen out for the first time since the scandal broke with her wedding ring on but she covered it up with her scarf. Now what message was she sending out to the world with that gesture? So far, she has been with her parents and she stepped out to visit her sister. However, she did not look crushed or upset but held herself with pride. She was dressed to kill, all made up and dazzling in diamond jewellery.
It’s been a hard time for her though. It’s not easy to hear that your husband strayed while you were expecting his child. Now whether she thinks that will be reason enough to take off that wedding ring or not is what remains to be seen.

The gems that shone and sparkled were mostly diamonds and the metal that had pride of place was platinum. It looks like the bold and the beautiful, the shining stars of the silver screen are increasingly being drawn to these two jewellery items when it comes to flaunting their attire and jewellery on the red carpet. This was the 62nd Emmy Awards function and it was well attended by many of the luminaries of the acting world.
Platinum was the favourite of many of the great celebrities and stars, even the ones from yesteryear. From Marilyn Monroe to Elizabeth Taylor to Grace Kelly, platinum and diamonds seem to have been a favourite especially when it came to red carpet time.
Some of the jewellery on display at this year’s Emmy Awards was Emily Blunt’s diamond and platinum bangle, Kelly’s Osborne’s white and black diamonds in platinum bracelets, Kim Kardashian’s platinum cuffs liberally studded with diamonds that were white and champagne coloured and Kyra Sedgwick’s platinum and diamonds earrings, ring and bracelets.
