Alrosa Inks Deal For Raw Diamonds Worth Millions To India

Sunday, March 14th, 2010

The Russian diamond producer, Alrosa has just signed a deal with diamond cutters in India for a three year contract valued at over £320 million. Alrosa is one of the largest raw diamonds suppliers and they account for a quarter of the world’s supply of diamonds today. They sold a little more than that last year to diamond cutting companies in India.

The two major diamond companies with whom they have signed the deal are Ratilal Becharlal & Sons and Rosy Blue Diamond. Depending on the situation changing globally, there has been provision made in the agreement to adjust the range of diamonds supplied as well as the price. It also includes provision for an increase in the supply.

507 Carat Diamond Sold

Monday, March 8th, 2010

It is probably the diamond that has got the highest price and there are those who feel it was sold at a bargain. The diamond was sold in the UK on Friday and Petra CEO says that it is an ‘incredible rarity’. Mined in the famous Cullinan mines in Africa where so many other large diamonds have been found, this one was sold to Chow Tai Food Jewellery Co.

The diamond was mined in September last year but the find was kept under wraps and then it was moved, closely guarded till it was sold. One wonders who will cut the stone and what shape it will be cut in. After all, it is one of the most interesting diamond finds in recent times.

Diamond Rings And Colour

Monday, February 1st, 2010

One is so used to thinking of diamonds as colourless and dazzling, reflecting any light around them that not too many people are aware of the number of colours that diamonds come in. So to shape and size, one can add colours as well when it comes to diamonds that are mined, cut and available all over the world.

Grading Diamonds For Diamond Rings

Grading diamonds by way of colour is the very first grading process when it comes to diamonds. Considering that there are so many diamonds that are not colourless and go from blue, red, pink, brown and yellow, this filtering process has to be done in order to decide the value of the stones. However, there are a number of people who like coloured diamonds so then it really is not a matter of price but a matter of personal preference. The white diamonds do reflect the most light and so one cannot deny the fact that they sparkle a lot brighter than the coloured diamonds. When a white or colourless diamond is perfectly cut, there’s really quite nothing that can take your breath away with its dazzle like it does.

Diamond Rings and a Whiter Shade of Pale

Diamonds are coded for colour and instead of an A to Z coding, it begins at D. This is only so that in case a more colourless or whiter diamond were ever discovered, there’s a place before D to slot them in. Wishful thinking or being practical is anyone’s guess. What colour really does to a diamond is act as an obstruction to the light that penetrates it. When a diamond is colourless, the light goes through cleanly and gets reflected as well as refracted. The light goes right through to the centre of the stone from where it bounces back in all its brilliance, showing you a rainbow of colours when it refracts. In fact, each facet acts very much like a prism does, spilling out a spectrum of colours to the world outside.

Diamond Ring Colour and Value

The most valuable diamonds today are those that are classified as being in the D to F range. Colourless or white diamonds are the rarer diamonds so naturally, they are valued at higher prices. So carat for carat, you will find that the white diamonds as they are called will cost a whole lot more.

Finally, you need to pick a diamond depending on what you like. Let’s face it, most people do not buy a diamond with a resale value in mind. You buy a diamond for the way it looks and one person’s taste might differ from another when it comes to diamonds as in everything else.

Is Naomi Campbell’s Van Cleef Diamond Ring An Engagement Ring?

Monday, January 25th, 2010

It looks like Naomi Campbell and her billionaire Russian boyfriend are planning to get married some time soon. She’s already moved out of her home in London and has set up home with Vladmir Doronin in Moscow. Rumour has it that she is doing all she can to fit in with his social circle and has even started Russian lessons.

The ring she is wearing is a black diamond skull ring. Is it an engagement ring? We don’t know but if it isn’t, it sure is a precursor to one. The two met a year and a half ago at the Cannes Film Festival and they have been together since then. So it looks like it’s just a matter of time before they announce their nuptials to the world.

Diamond Rings A Part Of China’s Luxury Leanings

Sunday, January 24th, 2010

Luxury goods make a statement in China today like never before. So whether it’s the huge rock on a woman’s finger or the designer bags she carries or the watch, car or yacht a person owns, they all contribute today to telling everyone just how rich one is. China has right now overtaken the US when it comes to luxury goods consumption and they are now in second place, close behind Japan.

Little wonder that when the major jewellery houses have their exhibitions or when the auction houses announce their auctions, there is always a presence in the Far East and very often the large and expensive diamonds that might not sell in the West are snapped up by Chinese buyers. Most of the luxury brands have a presence in China today as they eye a growing population of luxury seekers with large pockets.

Tila Tequila Not About To Give Back 17 Carat Diamond Ring

Saturday, January 23rd, 2010

If anyone has been following Tila Tequila’s tweets, there has been a surfeit of them telling the world just how much she misses Casey Johnson. They had only known each other a month when they got engaged and now she weeps virtually while at the same time refusing to part with the huge rock of an engagement ring that Casey apparently presented her with.

Casey dies of an overdose and the sad part is, she was alone and her body wasn’t found for a few days because it wasn’t noticed as it lay in a house that was rented. The case is under investigation and all who knew Casey feel that Tila’s overwhelming display of sorrow online is a bit farfetched and over done.

Jennifer Lopez Goes Beyond Diamond Rings To Diamond Suit

Tuesday, January 19th, 2010

She’s been known for her diamond rings, especially that huge pink diamond rock that Ben Affleck gave her. She’s one lady who loves her diamonds and there’s usually a lot of bling she decks herself with. Well, she’s just gone one better now and she was seen with a diamond encrusted catsuit on. This was at Dick Clark’s Rockin Eve on New Year’s Eve for the ABC network.

Jennifer Lopez has had a whirl as a singer and an actress. Little wonder her love life was covered by the paparazzi with great gusto as well. This was especially so when after two divorces, she and Ben Affleck got engaged and it looked like they were the made-for-each-other couple in tinsel town. However, they broke off rather dramatically just hours before the wedding was to take place. Today, she’s married to Marc Anthony and they have twins – a girl and a boy who are little under a year old. She’s had a number of hit songs and she’s acted in a number of movies.

Hiding Engagement Rings Before The Proposal

Sunday, January 17th, 2010

It’s very often a part of the house manager’s job when a man decides to ask his girl to marry him at a restaurant. Usually, the man comes in earlier, makes a booking and asks the restaurant to co-operate and surprise his girl with the ring. The engagement ring could be hidden in a glass of champagne or in a bunch of flowers or even in a dessert.

When the Academy of Culinary Arts presents its awards once every four years, it takes into account a whole lot of things, including ideas about how to hide the engagement diamond ring. This year’s winner was Brad Gent and his all-round skills saw him far ahead of every other contestant. This was the first time his name was among the contestants and he did very well for himself indeed!

Sale Of Blood Diamonds For Diamond Rings Cancelled

Friday, January 15th, 2010

Recently, the sale of 60 kgs of diamonds from Zimbabwe that were suspected to be from the Chiadzwa diamond fields was halted, probably at the nick of time. The Kimberly Process and other regulatory bodies were absolutely unaware of the sale that was going to take place. This has shocked activists groups all over, especially as they have been asking that all diamond sales from this country are stopped.

It was a permanent secretary in the Zimbabwean government who rushed and stopped the sale from going through. The government had not sent notifications of the sale – and there were diamonds that weighed over 300,000 carats – and so there were no regulators from the Kimberly Process group. These kinds of sales seem to justify human activists’ calls for retailers and consumers to shun all Zimbabwean diamonds. Till the possibility of none of these controversial diamonds finding their way into the mainstream is over, maybe it would be better to boycott diamonds from this country.
