Can it really be possible? After all, they do say that diamonds are a girlâs best friend, not money in the bank. But Australian women seem to want a financially secure future before they begin to think about engagement rings and diamond jewellery. And here we were thinking that women will do anything to get a diamond ring â the bigger the diamond, the better!
It is not as though Australian women donât like diamond rings or expensive jewellery. Itâs just that they seem to have their priorities right. They would rather get a wonderful diamond ring from someone they know they can trust to look after them well financially than from someone whose finances arenât so strong.
This trait seemed to be evident thanks to a poll where over 70% of women said that a finally secure man was what they wanted first before they could begin to think of accepting a diamond engagement ring from him. They also said that they wouldnât mind a ring that wasnât very expensive, preferring to use the rest towards a house or a honeymoon. So men who canât afford that bank balance are going to find it tough to find someone on whose finger they can put a diamond engagement ring.

The world’s largest cutting and processing centre when it comes to diamonds is in Surat, India. It looks like in roughly 15 years, there’s going to be a drastic drop in the number of diamonds that they will be getting to cut and polish. This observation was made by none other that the managing director of De Beers, the last word in diamonds.
Why does he think this is going to happen? This could be because of the phenomenal rise in diamond sales both in China and India. In lands where a diamond engagement ring was unheard of, today, more and more girls getting engaged are expecting and getting a diamond ring for the engagement. With a trend like this, there’s not going to be too many diamonds going around soon.

A specialist diamond company employee was attacked as he was stepping out of his car and he was relieved of four hundred and fifty gold and diamond rings. Apparently his car had been followed by four men in a Toyota Avensis and when he alighted from his car at Park Street, one of the men came up to him, hit him and took away his holdall in which the rings were.
The attackers were said to look like East Europeans in their late twenties, wearing jeans as well as jackets and one of them had a bandana on. While the employee wasnât really hurt, he was in a state of shock. The police have warned the public against buying any cheap rings that anyone should try to sell to them.

If a diamond is almost perfect, then it will probably be snapped up to be used in the production of lasers rather than find its way to be made into a diamond ring. While diamonds are highly in demand for engagement rings, they are also used like mirrors in laser technology. While very high quality mirrors used to be what the scientists relied on, they have since discovered that flawless diamonds could do the job as well, if not better â so we should be prepared to see some of the best diamonds heading laser-wards.
The first diamond laser has been built by the physics team of Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia. According to them, diamonds have the potential to be very powerful lasers because of their ability to transmit heat and light effectively. This breakthrough seems to have opened the door to a new era in laser technology.

Last year, there was a sharp drop in diamond shares because people werenât buying as many diamond rings or diamond jewellery as before. The common man tightened his belt with the onset of the recession and the first thing to be hit was the luxury items, seeing a drop in diamond stock rates. Now suddenly, all that looks set for change and people are going out and buying diamond rings and jewellery again with the market recovery. So diamond stocks are expected to reflect that and start going up soon too.
Right now might be a good time to invest in diamond stocks as a lot of diamond mining companies are being traded at much less than their actual value â something that wonât happen for too long. With demand of diamonds slated to go up in the months to come, the stocks will too. According to the experts, investing in companies that are already producing diamonds rather than ones in the exploration stage might be a good idea.

More and more men seem to think that itâs only fair that they get an engagement ring too. And if itâs a diamond ring, all the better. For one thing, men are wearing a lot more jewellery today and for another, why should only the man do the spending, seems to be the sentiment.
For too long perhaps, men have done all the spending, even the very expensive engagement ring. However, with women earning as well, itâs time, men feel, that they, too, start paying and what better way to begin that with an expensive ring. According to famous jeweller H. Samuel, thereâs a steadily increasing demand for menâs engagement rings today â also called âmengagement ringsâ. So weâre guessing that more and more women will start proposing to men now.

All jewellery made of palladium will have to be hallmarked in the UK and from the 1st of January this year, that rule has come into effect if the jewellery contains anything more than one gram of palladium. Here in the UK, it has been possible to keep the standard of metals high thanks to this compulsory requirement of hallmarking.
For years now, silver, gold and platinum have been hallmarked and now itâs the turn of palladium which is gaining in popularity. It looks a lot like platinum but it is nowhere as expensive so hallmarking it removes the possibility of it being passed off for the more expensive metal. The hallmarking will have three things â the sponsorâs mark, the mark of how pure it is and the town mark.
