Do Today’s Wedding Rings Come With New Traditions?

Saturday, October 22nd, 2011

It looks like wedding ceremonies are changing and they are becoming more unique, more individual. For years, we’ve all fitted in when it came to engagements and weddings. The guy proposed with an engagement ring and if the lady accepted, they got married. However, a lot of young people are questioning the old ways. Why can’t women do the proposing, for instance and why can’t men wear an engagement ring too? With so many weddings taking place every year, wedding planners too are scrambling to make each wedding unique and suited to individual tastes rather than following tradition blindly.

Suddenly, the whole ‘must do’ and ‘have to’ seem to be flying out the window. Some couples walk up the aisle together, hand in hand, without having the bride’s father walk her up and then give her away. It looks like the whole man-woman equality is being played out quite strongly now. With so many couples living together and even having children before they get married, if and when they do, they want their children to be a part of the big day too so they weave in a part for them. The same goes for the wedding vows. Couples want to vow their love and loyalty for each other in their own words and not in the standard ways.

Then the rings. Engagement rings, especially when it comes to celebrities have moved far beyond the simple, classic solitaire diamond engagement ring. Today, ornate and huge seems to be the way to go. The same with the wedding ceremonies. Everyone wants heaps of wedding pictures and something on YouTube for the world to see. Today’s weddings are all going viral in a big way and the younger generation is not afraid of showing the world that they are up for change in every area of their life.

Japan Slows Down On Engagement Rings

Wednesday, June 17th, 2009

Japanese couples are buying smaller diamonds for engagement rings or doing away with them altogether. This seems rather hard to believe in a country where engagement rings had become so much part of the courtship and marriage ritual. Yes, times are tough but does it warrant cutting down on the romance of it all?

Japanese couples seem to feel that with the slowing down of the economy, it might be a better idea to use the money they would have spent on a diamond ring o buy a better home or to save it for an emergency later. It looks like there has been a 50% drop in engagement ring buying over the last ten years.

Diamond Trading Company Mood Sunny

Monday, May 18th, 2009

Contrary to expectations, the mood in the diamond trade isn’t bleak like in most other industries. Yes, while the sales of diamonds have fallen as is to be expected when times are tough, the fall is nowhere as much as anticipated. In fact, there seems to be a regular demand for stones in the half to two carat range which is the usual size of diamond that is chosen for an engagement ring. Unless of course you are rich and famous and in the five carat plus diamond consumer range!

There has of course been reduced production in all the mines so there is no freefall of price. This has kept the prices stable with not too much of a reduction. What seems to be very popular as far as cuts go are the emerald and cushion as well as princess cuts. There seems to be a veering towards the fancy rather than the simple and classic styles.

Insuring Your Diamond Engagement Ring

Friday, April 3rd, 2009

Nothing will probably make up for the loss of an engagement ring – in most cases, the sentimental value of the ring is way beyond what it actually costs. However, it is good to be a bit practical about these things and see your engagement ring as a part of your investments as well. Most men spend at least two months’ salary to buy an engagement ring and in the case of theft or loss, it does make sense to at least get the value of the ring back in cold hard cash.

If you already have a comprehensive insurance policy, then all you have to do is to add the jewellery to that policy. However, if you don’t, you might wish to find out from an insurer how to go about it. Check with friends and colleagues and also take the time to check online about what to look for. You might want to look at a few options before you settle on any one policy or insurance agent.

Of course, just because you insure your diamond engagement ring does not mean you can be careless with it. Check the prongs regularly, especially of you feel one might be loose because your ring keeps catching threads in fabric, towels, etc. Check the metal to make sure that it is not bent or cracked. Take your rings to a trusted jeweller once a year and have him check them out to see if everything is all right.

Diamond Skull And Crossbones Engagement Ring

Tuesday, March 31st, 2009

That’s what it was – a diamond ring studded with rubies and made in the shape of a skull and crossbones in sterling silver. Danny Bonaduce, the former Partridge family star, got recently divorced from his wife of many years and is now all set to wed his girlfriend who also happens to be his manager. Amy Railsback is more than twenty years younger but they seem to be very much in love.

Considering that Danny still wears pirate kind of jewellery, the choice of ring shouldn’t really surprise us. He wears a lot of weird rings too besides other items of jewellery. However, he has promised his wife-to-be to give her a more serious engagement ring and wedding ring later.

It looks like they are planning a small wedding ceremony with just close friends and family.

Speed Racer Christina Ricci Flaunts Her Diamond Engagement Ring

Monday, March 23rd, 2009

Christina Ricci and Owen Benjamin are engaged and the actress seemed very happy to show off her diamond ring as the two of them strolled into a gas station store together in Los Angeles. The two are slated to act together in the comedy movie All’s Faire In Love which should be released later this year.

Christina Ricci was the star in Sleepy Hollow and Ice Storm and is now known as the star in Speed Racer. Owen Benjamin was a stand up comic and a pianist and he made his debut in The House Bunny and is part of the CBS series Heckle U. The two of them met on the sets of All’s Faire In Love and have been together since October.

Diamond Engagement Ring And Wedding Band In One

Monday, March 16th, 2009

There are a number of couples who want to economise in these times. So the new trend seems to be to design one ring for both the wedding and the engagement. Most rings have a diamond in them to bring out the romance of an engagement.

The trend seems to be to have a ring that is a gold, white gold or platinum band and to have a diamond set in the middle. People are also looking at palladium for wedding ring-cum-engagement bands. The strange thing is that a lot of women seem to like this new trend as it means that they now have to wear just one ring on their finger which makes it easy when they are working or if they want to wear other jewellery when they want to go out for the evening.

Will this trend last? One is not sure but if you have just one ring, you could always have it redesigned on a special anniversary and make it into two rings at that point of time. Right now, it makes a lot of practical sense to many women to have just one ring.

All Jessica Simpson Wanted Was A Diamond Engagement Ring

Thursday, March 12th, 2009

That was what Jessica Simpson was hoping for this Valentine’s Day but it was not to be. Her boyfriend, football star Tony Romo wasn’t taking the bait, even though she has been going on and on about how much she loves him.

It’s sad actually because she seems to have been living the past few months on hope and prayer. She wanted it so badly for Christmas, then for New Year, then on Valentine’s Day. Maybe she wanted it a bit too badly? Whatever the reason, she wants to be engaged and she isn’t – at least not yet. She was being candid with her sister, Ashlee a few days later, saying that she wanted him to propose but wondering if her ever would. The trouble is that Jessica wants so much to get married and have children but Tony really doesn’t seem like he’s ready for that kind of responsibility yet.

Was Kate Silverton Trying On Engagement Rings?

Tuesday, March 10th, 2009

BBC’s Breakfast presenter, Kate Silverton and her boyfriend, Mike Heron were seen in New Bond Street and Hatton Garden at jewellery stores. Were they shopping for an engagement ring? It looks like it especially when she was seen looking at a diamond ring on her finger in the daylight outside the one shop’s entrance.

Mike Heron used to be with the Royal Marines and the two met when he instructed her when she did a journalist’s course on going into troubled areas. They both travel a lot so it isn’t easy spending time together but now it looks like they have decided to take the plunge.

The air was rife with speculation when Kate said in an interview recently that she was considering children for the very first time. She also said that the man in her life had just come back from Afghanistan so it wasn’t really difficult to put two and two together and come up with the right answer, not when the two were seen diamond engagement ring shopping!

Was Justin Timberlake Shopping For An Engagement Ring?

Monday, March 9th, 2009

That’s what the rumour mills say – that Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel were out looking at engagement rings. They’ve been together since 2007 so maybe it shouldn’t be such a surprise. However, when stars like these two are seen in a jewellery store in New York, the air is going to be thick with rumours. Especially when Justin spent so much time looking at rings.

The rumour mills also seem to know where the wedding is going to be – in Italy, so they say. Apparently, both of them attended a friend’s wedding there and wanted theirs to take place there too. It could be happening this summer and one can expect it to be a really newsworthy event.

Justin Timberlake has had his serious relationships before this and so has Jessica Biel so one will just have to wait and see whether the wedding really takes place.

Diamond Engagement Ring In An Ice Cream

Sunday, March 8th, 2009

Rings in ice creams are a rather dangerous way to propose. For that matter, any dessert or food perhaps. What happens if the girl doesn’t notice it and swallows it? That’s what happened to a young couple in Farmington. Her boyfriend put the diamond engagement ring into a Wendy’s Frosty and gave it to her and before he knew it, she had swallowed the ring.

She didn’t feel a thing so they wondered whether the ring had indeed been there at all till they had an X-ray taken and there it was, in her stomach. So they had to wait a couple of days before the ring passed out till it could be put on the finger it was meant for!

What has happened however is that the two of them have shot to fame because of what happened and they have been zipping across the country giving television interviews. Is swallowing a diamond engagement ring the way to instant fame? Looks like it is!
