Diamond Ring Or Diamond Mario?

Wednesday, March 24th, 2010

There’s a diamond Mario up for sale on eBay made of 10 carat gold and diamonds in 4 colours. The description on eBay calls it a men’s pendant though it looks good enough to be worn by both men and women. We’re wondering if this would be a good substitute for a man’s engagement ring, especially if the man is into computer games.

Coloured diamonds seem to be getting very popular – maybe it’s because you can do a lot with them design-wise. Both men and women seem to be looking at all colours when it comes to diamonds today. Time was when only the clear diamonds had great value, with the coloured ones being seen as impure and therefore inferior. That, fortunately, seems to have changed ushering in a colourful era for diamond rings.

Black Gold And Black Diamond Rings

Saturday, November 7th, 2009

It might take a little getting used to but the elegance of black seems to be seeping into the engagement ring scene as well. Paul Williams decided that he wanted to ask his girlfriend Sarah Taylor to marry him with something different. He thought the regular engagement ring was so passé! He also wanted to look beyond the classic solitaire. So he chose black diamonds set in black gold. Sarah was stunned but when she looked closely at it, she realised just how exquisite it was.

This seems to be a trend that is slowly coming in. Designers in London are confirming that there are more young couples looking for different rings even while they want diamonds. So black diamonds as well as coloured diamonds seems to be popular choices for engagement rings. Some seem to prefer rough, uncut diamonds too. It looks like there’s a wave of change when it comes to engagement rings.

Will Natural Coloured Diamonds Be Tomorrow’s Gold Standard?

Tuesday, June 23rd, 2009

It might be a bit tough to envisage but it could well happen. With the major economies not having a great deal of reserves where gold is concerned, if the gold standard which was abandoned in 1971 were to be brought back, the price to gold would rise to phenomenal heights. That might not be a welcome event for any of the economies that matter.

There is one thing however that has continued to trade in hard cash over the years and that is natural coloured diamonds. They have proved to be a great asset accumulation tool with most of the natural coloured diamonds being snapped up not for jewellery but for investment purposes. There are some incredible rare coloured diamonds and there are some which are available for a thousand or more dollars so they are something everyone can afford.

Diamond Engagement Rings To Get A Touch Of Colour This Year

Thursday, January 15th, 2009

The new year has just kicked off and already there are very strong signs of a wave of colour hitting the diamond ring design scene. Suddenly, it looks like so many people in the world want coloured diamonds for their engagement rings. Not just their engagement rings but diamond rings for any occasion.

Now why would this sudden trend happen? There have been trends before when coloured diamonds made an appearance but it was mostly restricted to celebrities and you found that there were seasons for yellow, pink and brown coloured diamonds. This new trend however, seems to be moving across all strata of society. One wonders if in a world where the future seems bleak, people are looking for colour in their life everywhere. Do coloured precious stones make people feel uplifted?

One doesn’t really know why this trend has begun and it is really hard to predict whether it is just a seasonal burst which will die out or a trend that is here to stay. All we know is that it is going to make for a colourful year ahead!

Diamonds Go The Colours Of The Rainbow!

Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008

The demand is growing for diamonds that are coloured and that’s a huge sweeping change. Time was when the whiter the diamond, the better it was thought to be. The times they are a-changing however as more and more coloured diamonds are entering the diamond fashion scene. Look around and you’re sure to notice some diva wearing a diamond that’s pink or even brown – oh, yes – brown is very ‘in’ when it comes to diamond rings.

Well, there’s this jeweller in Austin, Texas in America who is enamoured by coloured diamonds. Not that he doesn’t like the white ones, he just finds it a lot more exciting to design using the coloured ones. Dean Fredrick’s passion is designing jewellery and it started way back when he was in school. After training at the Gemmological Institute of America in Los Angeles, he worked for a bit and then started his own line of jewellery – and he just can’t get enough of those coloured bits of dazzle!

Not for him the typical coloured diamonds like yellow or pink. He is much more daring when it comes to diamonds, especially diamond rings. So you’ll see him experimenting with brown and black diamonds, even green ones. And it’s not just for diamond engagement rings, but for wedding bands as well. The coloured diamonds are set in 18 carat gold and he likes to use yellow, white or rose and he also loves to work with platinum. He has a special line of stackable coloured diamond rings which have become very popular. What he loves designing most of all though, are custom-made diamond engagement rings. Here’s to a lot more colour in the world of diamonds!
