Bulgari Blue Diamond Ring To Be Auctioned

Sunday, September 12th, 2010

Christie’s is going to auction a 2-stone Bulgari diamond ring at its upcoming auction in New York. The ring is expected to fetch upwards of ₤8 million and it looks like it is going to be Christie’s best sellers when it comes to diamonds. The ring is expected to be auctioned sometime next month.

This diamond ring has two diamonds – one, a nearly 10 carat colourless triangular white diamond and the second, a triangular vivid blue diamond which is nearly 11 carats. Christie’s has sold many blue diamonds but this will be the largest blue diamond to go on sale. Blue diamonds are very rare which is why a lot of interest is expected when this diamond ring comes up to be auctioned.

Of course, the fact that it is from Bulgari makes it even more valuable and this sale will no doubt be a landmark when it comes to diamond sales. The ring will comes to be auctioned from a private collector in Europe in whose family the ring has been for four decades. He had bought it for his wife when she had their first child.

5.02 Carat Rare Diamond Ring At Sotheby’s Geneva Sale

Friday, April 23rd, 2010

The second week of May is going to see a rare large blue diamond ring go on sale in Geneva. There are going to be many rare diamonds on sale but this one, with a rare blue diamond weighing over 5 carats is going to hold pride of place. This follows Sotheby’s successful sale in Hong Kong where a DeBeers millenium blue diamond was sold for an astronomical sum.

The ring was designed by Alexandre Reza, the famous French jewellery designer and it will be on display and go on sale at Geneva’s Beau Rivage Hotel at the sale called the Evening of Magnificent Jewels. It is made up of two diamonds - the blue one and a matching white one in the same pear shape alongside each other and it is set in a toi et moi design. While the blue diamond weighs 5.02 carats, the white one weighs 5.42 carats. The blue has been described as a fancy vivid blue while the white is a flawless D-colour. A private collector has put it up for sale and with so many collectors today waiting for blue diamonds to go on sale, it looks like there should be no problem getting a buyer.

Sotheby’s Record £6.25 Million Sale

Saturday, May 16th, 2009

The Geneva auction for Sotheby’s saw the sale of an incredible diamond – the bright blue cushion shaped diamond from Petra Diamonds. The diamond weighs over 7 carats and is an absolutely flawless gem. No one expected such a high bid for this diamond even though it is a very unique and valuable stone. So the jubilation was so much more than usual.

Petra Diamonds seems to have built up a very great respect among buyers and the trade over the years. They will produce all their targeted production of one million diamonds by the end of June for the current sales year. Right through this period in a bad economic climate, Petra was one of the few companies that did not have to cut down on production from any of its mines. They may have cut the price a bit but they have not cut back on production which is admirable at times like these.

Flawless Over-Seven Carat Blue Diamond Unveiled

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

An absolutely flawless blue diamond which has been unveiled by Sotheby’s will be the main item at an auction in Geneva early May. It is estimated to fetch over £3 million. The colour of the diamond is so rare – it is a vivid blue and it looks like this will be the rarest gem to go on sale this year. The stone was mined in the South African Cullinan mine which has given the world some other rare stones as well.

The rough diamond was nearly 40 carats before it was cut and polished and no internal flaw is visible which along with its colour is what makes it so rare. Will it sell in this recessionary climate? Though the sale of regular diamonds has fallen quite sharply over the past few months, rare gems seem to not be affected at all by what is happening around the globe. The prices don’t seem to fall either when it comes to something that is unique.

This diamond does not have a name as yet – this time, they are letting the one who is fortunate enough to buy it do the honours. So there will be a christening as it were after the sale.
