For Beyonce, nothing beats getting married to Jay-Z and her wedding to the rapper is still the greatest moment in her life. Beyonce and Jay-Z expecting their first baby soon and it seems incredible that two such famous people have been able to keep their lives so private. Most people who know them will say that Beyonce will still have felt that her wedding and the wedding ring are very important to her and this would have been the case even though it were an ordinary wedding ring picked up from any store.

Beyonce has now opened up a bit about how they fell in love and even how they got married – something that has been kept very private till now. She tells some of it in her new DVD project which she has directed called Live at Roseland: Elements of 4 DVD. The film’s montage has shots of her wedding day and her getting ready. As she sings, there are snippets of their life and home together.

The new DVD is a story of love - how Beyonce’s life changed after she met Jay-Z and it tells it all so romantically as she speaks and sings. They got married three years ago and it is only now that the story is being told. That is one great effort at keeping things under wraps. Especially as both of them are such huge celebrities and there must have been newshounds following them every moment of the day as soon as they heard they were a couple. However, where there is a will, there seems to be a way and this powerful couple has managed to keep their life away from the public glare.

The two were together when the movie Telephone was filmed and they obviously got along famously. Which is why Lady Gaga got Beyonce a really unique birthday gift – a whip encrusted with diamonds. It shows just how much she likes her for her to have gone out and picked such a special and expensive gift.

So when did this happen? It was at a show in Detroit where Jay-Z and Eminem were playing together and Lady Gaga met up with Beyonce in Jay-Z’s dressing room and gave it to her. The whole dressing room had been done up with banners and balloons for the occasion and champagne was flowing. Sources say that Beyonce was so happy, she just squealed when she got the gift.

The whip is made of diamonds and leather – what a combination! There are hundreds of diamonds in it and it must have cost quite a bit. Lady Gaga must have been thrilled that her new friend loved her kinky gift.

So the whole world got caught up in the Kanye West episode at the MTV Awards show and with it, the attention was focussed on Beyonce even though she had nothing to do with it. However, this meant that everyone caught a glimpse of the diamonds all over her, dazzling for all they were worth! Not just her – there were a few others as well who were bathed in the dazzle of diamonds.

The dress code for the day seems to have been diamond hoop earrings – and huge ones at that. There was Beyonce of course as well as Alicia Keys, Kristin Cavallari and Lorraine Schwartz. Together with the diamond hoops, there were diamond bracelets, diamond rings and diamond necklaces that added to the dazzle of the night.

When you have an 18-carat diamond engagement ring, you will be forgiven for not wanting to wear it all the time. So what Beyonce does is have two engagement rings – one of which is a fake. When she appears in public and when she has to be onstage for her performances, she prefers to wear the less expensive ‘fake’ ring.

Apparently, when they got engaged the last year, he got her two rings – one the stunner that everyone knows about and the other that is worth around £3600. So the expensive and famous diamond engagement ring is insured – no doubt for a very high amount but Beyonce still feels a bit hesitant about wearing it all the time, probably because of the sentimental value attached to the stone more than its intrinsic worth.

Jay-Z and Beyonce got married last year in April with close friends and family around for which they threw a lavish party. Jay-Z’s real name is Sean Carter and Beyonce’s is – surprise! – Beyonce!

It’s true. There’s something about celebrities that make us want to know everything about them and an engagement is such a big part of people’s lives. We get a kind of vicarious pleasure when the media takes us into their personal lives – lives that maybe secretly we wish we had. And of course, the fact that their diamond rings are usually bigger and so much more expensive that we could ever hope to wear makes it just that much more enthralling.

Let’s take a look at some of the rings that probably made our eyes pop out of their sockets just looking at pictures! There was Paris Hilton’s 24 carat ring from her billionaire boyfriend though that did not lead to a wedding ring. And of course, Christina Aguilera’s 20 carat diamond engagement ring. More recently, there was Beyonce’s 18-carat ring. ( Gosh – how do they carry those rocks around?) Oh, let’s not forget the biggest one of them all – Elizabeth Taylor’s 30-carat diamond engagement ring – just one of her many!

Royalty has always been in the news for their jewellery. There was Princess Diana’s 18-carat ring and before that, Grace Kelly’s 12-carat ring.
