Is Your Love Measured By The Worth Of Your Wedding Ring?
Human beings use hundreds of symbols in life. Each symbol has its own story and the symbolism and the symbols used vary from culture to culture. If there is one symbol that is almost universally understood and used, it is the wedding ring. Does how much it costs really matter? Or is the intrinsic worth of a wedding ring much more that the metal out of which it is fashioned?
Well, the original forms of wedding rings were made out of reeds. The reeds were twisted in the form of a ring. This practice started with the Egyptians. The Egyptians and the other Semitic tribes gave a special place for circular shapes in their culture as it reminded them of eternity – that which has no beginning or end. By using the symbol of the wedding ring they believed that their marriage too would last for eternity.
Marriage is not a matter of how much money we are ready to spend on the other person. If that should be the criterion, then the marriage would cease to exist when there is no money. It is a matter of the heart and the heart does not or rather, should not let the material worth of a symbol of love like the wedding ring matter.
If that is the case, then why do people seek out the most expensive wedding ring they can buy? In many cases, it could be because they equate how much they are willing to spend on the other person with how much they love that person. So in order to show just how much they care, they go out and buy the most expensive gift or wedding ring there is.
Looked at from this angle, it really is quite touching. However, this would mean that the wedding ring is a result of how much love there is in a person’s heart. Not the other way round. You just should not infer that an expensive wedding ring means that the person cares a lot more.
Each person will get a wedding ring that he can afford. In many cases, it will be the best that he can get. As long as it comes with his heart attached, there really is no way that what was spent on the ring is in any way a reflection of how much love you’re getting. No, a wedding ring cannot measure the love in a person’s heart but it can tell you that the love is there, waiting for you.
