An engagement ring is a something to be worn daily and most often, all the time. It is important therefore that it is comfortable to wear to go about the daily activities without having to constantly be taking it off, where it could get forgotten and lost. Most of us are not Liz Taylors with a rock on our fingers but the diamond engagement ring, even if it is a small diamond, should be something that we can wear and forget about. Most of us have our jobs outside or inside the home and the ring must be comfortable and not be a nuisance that snags on anything and everything. In other words an engagement ring has to be practical for everyday wear. Large diamond rings usually do not qualify as everyday wear.
When choosing an engagement ring, the man or couple tends to look at things like the type of metal, style, setting, shape of stone, how the ring looks on the girl’s finger as not all rings look good on every finger - but rarely at the practical aspect of the ring. So what would constitute a comfortable diamond engagement ring?
First and foremost, the engagement ring must have the inside edges rounded so that it does not cut into the finger with any movement of the hand.
It is better not to have a large stone setting with elevated prongs that hold the stone, which snags and catches on anything and everything, and can scratch and tear.
Intricate and heavy work on the diamond engagement ring or band collects grit and dirt and will need constant washing, brushing and cleaning to remove things like dough while baking and dirt while gardening. Most marriages lead to children and one can accidentally hurt a child with a large diamond that sticks out of a ring, especially one that is elevated.
Engagement rings are meant to be worn daily and therefore must be practical for daily use. It is not that the man wants to give his girl a cheap ring or that the girl has chosen a cheap ring. The man can always give the girl a second large stoned or intricate ring to commemorate their first date or first anniversary, which can be worn on special occasions and not on a daily basis.
Love is never measured by the cost of an engagement ring or the size of the diamond on it. The diamond engagement ring is a token that is a daily reminder of the commitment between two people to love and cherish each other and therefore to be worn always along with the wedding ring. So make sure it is comfortable to wear at all times.
