Engagement rings : Why choose a loose diamond first?
Many people shop for loose diamonds first and then for settings for the engagement ring second. This is actually a very good way to go about the process of shopping for engagement rings and in most cases will result in the most beautiful ring.
A diamond setting is the stage, so to speak, where the diamond will be shown off. There are so many different types of settings, however, that you may find it difficult to decide which one you want. In fact, you may not know where you should start.
The first place you want to start is with the diamond. Once you have purchased the perfect loose diamond you will be prepared to start shopping for wedding rings, also called the setting. Of course, there are many settings available and that is why there are such a variety of diamond ring settings on the market. But, once you choose your diamond that will narrow down the settings that will work for that particular shape and size of diamond. There are some things you need to keep in mind when shopping for settings because they will help you show off your diamond the best.
The following questions need to be asked before you take the next step:
1. Should the setting be yellow gold, white gold, or platinum?
2. What kind of wedding bands will be purchased? Will they be small and plain or adorned with more diamonds and/or other stones?
3. Do you want your diamond setting to be adorned with additional stones down the band or other stones like emeralds, rubies, or sapphires?
4. What style of wedding rings do you prefer? Solitaire or three stone settings?
5. Would you prefer estate or vintage settings or romantic, contemporary, modern, or even floral settings?
When you see an engagement ring on women’s hands you just notice their beauty. It’s hard to imagine so much thought and effort goes into putting the stone and setting together!
Before you make a final decision ideally you should try on a variety of rings to ensure the style you buy really looks good on your finger and is something you could be happy wearing daily for the rest of your life. Believe it or not, but just because a ring looks gorgeous at the jeweler’s does not mean you will love it on your hand. Try on a few engagement ring styles and the one you like the best should be the inspiration for designing your own engagement ring!
