Thursday, December 1st, 2011

So Anne Hathaway is finally engaged and she and her fiancé Adam Shulman were spotted strolling together in a park with their dog. The actress confirmed her engagement a couple of days ago. The couple have been together for three years but they have been very quiet and private about it. It was only after a year of them being together that the media got a whiff of the way things were.

Anne Hathaway looked so happy as she kissed Adam and showed off her dazzling new diamond ring. The 6 carat platinum diamond engagement ring had Adam pitching in on the design too and it is said to have cost over £95,000. The ring was commissioned to be made by Kwait Heritage, the jewellery company. Adam is also co-owner in a jewellery line and he has some experience of designing jewellery.

Anne Hathaway has made a name for herself in Hollywood – from the Princess Diaries to Alice in Wonderland to The Devil Wears Prada to Brokeback Mountain – she’s a gorgeous actress who has made her name in the best of movies. She has acted alongside the top stars in Hollywood and her next release is a lead role in the next Batman movie. Adam Shulman too is an actor, having acted in The Dukes of Hazzard, The West Wing and American Dream. He seems to be a calm influence on her – something she needs after the break up with her previous partner who was arrested for fraud. She looks very happy with him and with life.

American Footballer Never Takes Off His Wedding Ring

Wednesday, November 23rd, 2011

Sportsmen who play with their wedding rings on are few and far between. However, American Buffalo Bills footballer of the NFL keeps his wedding ring on, no matter what. He says in the five and a half years that he has been married, he hasn’t taken off his ring for anything. Not when he plays nor has a shower or even when he had to change diapers.

Most players take their wedding rings off and leave them at home or in their lockers but not Ryan Fitzpatrick. In this game, quarterbacks like him are especially careful to make sure their wedding ring is off while they are playing but he does not see the need for it and continues wearing it. What helps of course, is the fact that he wears the ring on his left hand and throws with his right so it does not put too much pressure on his left hand. He also says that he isn’t really making a statement here or trying to bring the issue to the forefront. For him, it is something personal and he feels that for him, it should stay on. His platinum wedding ring has the date of the wedding inscribed on it and to date, has fitted him well and has not needed any resizing.

Should a player wear his wedding band always or not? It really is each one’s decision. Most players take it off to avoid the risk of injury and when it comes to injury, many wives would probably tell their sports person husbands that it does not matter. Some wear a rubber band in place of the wedding ring to signify that they are married and some just leave the wedding ring off for the length of the game. One player says that he leaves it off and with it, he stops being a husband and becomes a monster on the field so he feels it is all right to keep it off for that period.

Golconda Diamond Ring To Be Auctioned By Sotheby’s

Thursday, November 10th, 2011

Sotheby is going to have a couple of really newsworthy diamonds that are going to be up for sale in New York this December. The first of course, is the Light of Golconda which is a 33.03 carat diamond set in a ring. The second one is a diamond ring with a 22.17 carat intense pink diamond and they will both be exhibited from December 3rd onwards in New York.

The diamond rings will have gone on a long journey before being exhibited in New York. They would have travelled from Geneva to Los Angeles and then to Hong Kong before coming to the Big Apple. It will also be a once in a lifetime sale of a well known diamond and a pink diamond which is over 10 carats, which is very rare indeed. The Golconda diamond was mined in India and is one of the legendary transparent diamonds from the Golconda mines. It is a cushion shaped diamond which was cut by hand three or four hundred years ago. The other diamond is rare and only a couple of dozen of them with such a wonderful pink colour have ever been auctioned. Last year, a pink diamond was sold and it fetched the highest ever price for a diamond sold by Sotheby’s. Pink diamonds are usually the preserve and possession of royalty in a number of countries.

What will also be up for auction will be a number of other exclusive pieces of jewellery which include some fabulous bracelets. There will also be a 16.40 carat sapphire, a sapphire and diamond ring, a platinum diamond ring which has an oval-shaped diamond and a ruby and diamond ring with a ruby weighing over 10 carats. There will also be pieces of jewellery from famous designers including jewellery in gold. A range of men’s accessories will also be exhibited and these include cuff links, dress sets and cigarette cases and this comes from someone’s personal collection.

Now, More Of A Choice For Men’s Wedding Rings

Sunday, October 30th, 2011

Men didn’t have too much of a choice in wedding rings till a few years, maybe a decade ago. It was always the plain wedding band made of gold and the only unique thing about it could be the engraving and the date inside. Outwardly, all men’s wedding rings looked the same – some were slimmer, some were thicker. Then came a choice over the past few years of white gold and platinum wedding rings for men. Today, however, there is a vast choice for men to choose from.

The other metals that are finding favour with men are tungsten, palladium and titanium. Suddenly, a steely masculine colour became a lot more popular. Not just manly looking, these metals are a lot stronger than traditional gold and a lot more resistant to scratches. Today, there are even more options. Now, men seem to like a whiter look when it comes to wedding rings and what seems to be competing with white gold and platinum is silver. Suddenly, silver seems to have been elevated into this category and designers are mixing it with a small bit of other metals to keep them looking bright and making them more durable. Unlike traditional sterling silver, this will not tarnish and this makes it so much more popular.

Men’s fashions seem to have come a long way in the last few decades and men too, are looking beyond what is necessary to what looks good and is fashionable. This just means they want more choices in everything they buy – whether it is clothes or personal products to their wedding rings which they now see as a statement of style as well.

Eternity Diamond Rings Getting Popular

Thursday, October 27th, 2011

Eternity diamond rings have always been a favourite with some people but recent trends show that they are getting very popular with many people today. The thing is, they are diamond rings for any occasion – from an engagement to a wedding to anniversaries to diamond rings for no reason whatsoever. It also helps that the diamonds can be of any size – with so many of them, they will dazzle anyway and when they are smaller diamonds, they are a lot more affordable that one big diamond and this makes it attractive to many.

If you were to look around, you’ll find that eternity diamond rings are the choice of many when it comes to wedding rings – now, the eternal band of love has the sparkle of diamonds in it and that makes it so much more popular! While men still stay with the traditional gold band or maybe tungsten or platinum, women seem to prefer the eternity diamond ring – just the perfect match for a diamond engagement ring on any woman’s finger.

For comfort, especially when it comes to a wedding ring that is worn all the time, setting diamonds just for the visible half of the ring seems to be the trend. While it saves on the cost of the diamonds, it also means much more comfort as only the smoothness of the metal is felt on the inside of the hand. At the same time, the diamonds sparkle in a row giving the impression that it goes all the way around. Eternity rings can be made to symbolise dates or milestones with the number of diamonds so this makes it such a great, unique gift for a special occasion.

Over £2000 Spent On Engagement Rings

Thursday, September 29th, 2011

A study has thrown up some amazing insights. There are four counties in the country where men spend over £2000 on engagement rings. In fact, the average amount spent in one county was £2535 on one ring. This average was computed by using the sales over one whole year and trying to see where most of the spending was coming from. The study clearly threw up four counties where men went all out to spend a lot on the engagement ring they chose to propose to the women in their lives.
The four counties are West Glamorgan, Glasgow, West Lothian and Angus. If one were to look at an average, most British men spent over £1500 for an engagement ring. This augurs well for the diamond ring industry and obviously, diamonds are still the most popular gemstones for an engagement ring. It also shows that no matter what financial problems people might have, when it comes to an engagement ring, as far as possible, there will be no scrimping and saving.
The metal that is most popular is yellow gold and one out of two engagement rings seems to be made of this. Coming up next was platinum followed by yellow metal. There are certain counties that are still traditional in their tastes and will only look at yellow gold. However, the rest of the country seems to be more modern in their taste and they seem to prefer the white look to the yellow. London seemed to have a platinum preference. What also emerged is that more and more people are buying their jewellery online finding it a lot more convenient and efficient.

Study Shows Up Preferences For Wedding Ring Metal

Sunday, September 18th, 2011

What is the most popular metal for wedding rings? A survey that was done by a store recently had some very interesting findings that popped up. Apparently, Greater Manchester people prefer white gold while people in London prefer platinum. And in Cambridge, the most popular metal is yellow gold. The study shows that from an overview, it looks like the most popular metal in the UK is white gold while coming second is platinum and then yellow gold.
For those who feel that platinum is the ruling metal today for engagement rings and wedding rings, this might come as a bit of an eye-opener. When did white gold creep into first place? And does the place you are from really have so much to do with the metal you pick? Looks that way from the survey. Considering that for years, yellow gold was a given for wedding rings, maybe the time had come for a move away for it. However, maybe tradition does play a big part so while people might move away, they still want it to be gold when it comes to wedding rings. Whatever the reason, this seems to be the trend today.
Wedding rings are so important because it means rings for both the man and his bride. While the engagement ring is all about the woman, wedding rings have something that say ‘couple’ about them. The trend today is to have matching wedding rings whenever possible and when it means wedding rings for both the man and the woman, maybe white gold makes perfect sense. The tradition of gold and yet it looks different – something that both men and women could be comfortable in.

Looking For An Antique Diamond Ring Owner

Sunday, September 4th, 2011

A truck driver in British Columbia, Canada was poking around some drainage sludge when he noticed something shining – and he realised that it was a diamond ring. It was beautiful – three good sized diamonds set in platinum and when he cleaned it up, he could see that there was an inscription inside. The date on the diamond ring said March 1939 and there were six initials – obviously the initials of the couple. He wouldn’t have been human if he didn’t feel tempted to go sell it at the nearest pawn shop but he didn’t do that because he felt it would be much more rewarding to find the rightful owner. He knew that the diamond ring could well become someone’s heirloom because it belonged to their family.
First, he went with the ring to a reputed jewellery shop to make sure that they were diamonds indeed. Once he did that, he is now looking for the rightful owners and the city is helping him do just that. For most people, once a ring goes down a sewer, they feel that’s the end of it and they don’t really follow up on the loss like they would if a ring were stolen. The actual owners could well be dead now and maybe their children don’t know about the ring. Yes, the information is very limited but the man feels that with people’s help, they will find out who those initials and the diamond ring belonged to. A lady who works in an auction house there says the diamond weight of the ring is 1.5 carats.
This isn’t the truck driver’s first find. He has been poking around Victoria’s drains and he has found old coins from the eighteenth century and some rings from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. He was able to identify them because of the hallmarks on them. His great find two years ago was a medal from World War I and he was able to locate the owner and return it. It’s amazing what secrets even drains can hold.

Traditional Wedding Rings For Nick And Vanessa

Friday, July 22nd, 2011

Their wedding was anything but traditional, seeing that it was held on Necker Island, Sir Richard Branson’s private island. Though it was not a very large affair, it was an exotic affair and sources say there were only thirty five guests present – just close family and friends on this amazing tropical island. The couple, Nick Lachey and Vanessa Minnillo, has already released a teaser of the wedding preparations and it shoews Vanessa trying on wedding gowns. There may have been just a handful of guests at the wedding but the whole world is going to be privy to every bit of the wedding and the wedding preparations as well.

The wedding rings, unlike the unusual wedding, were traditional – diamond bands for both of them with Nick’s being designed to look more masculine. Vanessa’s wedding ring was designed to match her engagement ring which is an asscher-cut one. Both the rings were designed by New York designer, David Bader and Nick’s has twenty four diamonds set in a platinum band. Apparently both of them wanted to have wedding bands with a substantial sprinkling of diamonds. They were obviously very happy with their traditional wedding bands encrusted with diamonds.

Nick Lachey and Vanessa Minnillo got engaged in November last year and when they got married last week, they just flew their guests to what they told them was a secret destination – and what a surprise the island must have been! Vanessa is a former Miss Teen USA and is now a TV presenter while Nick is a singer, songwriter and a TV personality. They met when he was doing a music video and though they split after a while, they got back together and have been together ever since.

Christie’s Diamond Ring Sales

Saturday, June 25th, 2011

There have been record sales of diamond rings especially at the New York auction of Christie’s last week. Suddenly, there seems to be a renewed interest in the auction of jewellery and in this one, diamond rings were the ones that seemed to draw the most bids. In fact, two of them were sold for over £60,000. In all, the auction pulled in sales of nearly £7 million.

There were two rings that were the stars of the auction. The first was a diamond ring with an over-46 carat diamond in the centre and with two one-carat diamonds which were pear-shaped on either side. The ring was set in platinum. The second was also a diamond and platinum ring and the diamond in the centre was over 10 carats and this too was flanked by two small pear-shaped diamonds.

The other diamond rings that were sold were a colourless 10 carat diamond ring and a yellow diamond ring where the stone was an emerald cut one, surrounded by two diamonds which were trillion cut. Also sold were a pair of yellow diamond earrings where the stones were square cut and set in platinum and gold. This auction seems to have heralded in a great season for Christie’s.
