The Angel Of The North And An Engagement Ring

By Samara James

Katherine lived in the town that has the famous landmark but she had never been there and her boyfriend Steven was determined to make his proposal special. The Springwell girl had never made the trip to see the sculpture and so when Steven asked her if she would like to go see it, she readily agreed.

When they got there, he proposed, right at the Angel’s feet. He dropped down on one knee and asked her to marry him with a white gold diamond engagement ring. The couple had been dating for a year but she didn’t expect the proposal right there and thought it was so romantic. As luck would have it, there was a photographer around and he caught the proposal on camera. That was memorable too for the couple. The two have known each other since they were children but they lost touch and met again in the end of 2011. It was almost like it was meant to be and they were meant for each other.

The Angel of the North is a modern steel sculpture by Antony Gormley and it stands twenty metres high with a wing span of fifty-four metres. It stands on a hill and it has been designed to look like it is reaching out to embrace you. This is what Peter Kula, a photographer was taking pictures of when he noticed a man who went down on one knee and quickly took their picture. He then went to ask them about it and also took a picture for them to keep. For the couple, it is such a great moment to be captured on film for them to keep and to show future generations. A romantic proposal and it is now preserved for all time.
