Diamond Engagement Ring Rescuers Guests At Thanksgiving

Wednesday, November 30th, 2011

Tina flushed down her diamond engagement ring by mistake and was so thrilled to get it back with a lot of help from a collection system’s crew that she invited them over for Thanksgiving – she really was so grateful and she felt that she had to show them just how much. They included the collection’s system supervisor, the maintenance technician and the closed circuit TV operator.

Tina had woken up early – at 5 in the morning to use the toilet. It was only later that she realised that the diamond engagement ring was missing from her finger. She then recalled that she had removed it from her ring finger because it felt a bit uncomfortable and itchy. She had put it on her little finger where obviously, it must have been a bit loose. Then she used the toilet. Her husband kept asking her whether she had flushed it down while they were looking for it and Tina had to come to the conclusion that the ring must have fallen in and got flushed.

The thing is, Tina has never taken her ring off before and it was devastating to think that she might have unwittingly flushed something so precious down the drain. The problem was, it was four hours later when they realised just where the ring could have gone. The diamond ring weighed 4 carats and they knew they had to do everything to get it back. When everything else failed, they were told to contact the collection crew and they came, pushed a video camera on, set up drainage traps and hoped for the best. They didn’t have any luck but they came back again and this time, after a lot of difficulty, they spotted the ring and flushed it out. So it’s little wonder that Tina wanted them at her Thanksgiving meal!

Soldiers Based In Iraq Come Back And Wear Their Wedding Rings Again

Tuesday, November 29th, 2011

It was a wonderful homecoming for seventy five soldiers from Davenport in Iowa – they had been deployed in Iraq for a year in order to fly, refuel and maintain the American army’s Chinook helicopters. As they finished their term and came back, there was such a sense of joy among them and their waiting families. Some of them had done their very first deployment service and this was their first stint in the army. They had all been deployed in the Army National Guard and as they stepped out onto the Aviation Support Facility, there were tears of joy awaiting them.

What was also a source of joy for many of the men was the fact that they could wear their wedding rings again. They had to take them off while they were on duty but now, they could wear those rings again and that was a great feeling for them and their wives. There were such happy moments of men meeting their wives again and having their wedding rings slipped back on, of children meeting their fathers, parents meeting their sons and siblings and friends meeting their loved ones.

Some of the men have been there since 2003 and they were among the first soldiers to be deployed in the Gulf region. And they seem to be among the last to come back. All the wives and families of all the soldiers there want their men and women to come back because the feeling is that they have been away too long.

Will The Sun Drop Diamond Become The Largest Yellow Diamond Ring?

Monday, November 28th, 2011

The recent sale by Sotheby’s in Geneva of the large yellow diamond known as the Sun Drop diamond for £10.9 million was the highest ever paid for a yellow diamond. So will this rare diamond go on to become someone lucky woman’s yellow diamond engagement ring? Or diamond pendant, maybe? Or will it belong to some collector who never allows it to see the light of day? The sale was done at Sotheby’s offices in Hotel Beau Rivage in Geneva. It is situated on Leman Lake and the Sotheby’s office has been remarkable in that there have been many prestigious sales that have taken place ever since it opened its offices in 1976. They are proud to say that they have buyers from thirty-five countries in touch with them.

The diamond was bought by an anonymous buyer who bid over the phone – and what a huge sum he bid for it. The rare yellow diamond was mined last year in South Africa and it was sold by Cora International which is based in New York. It has been certified as possessing the colour ‘fancy vivid yellow’ and it is very rare to find one that has such a gorgeous, clear yellow hue. The diamond weighs 110.03 carats.

Yellow diamonds are formed thanks to small amounts of nitrogen getting trapped inside the molecules of carbon and then hardening over years – maybe millions of years. Diamonds in their purest form are colourless and transparent but when there are traces of other minerals or gases, they impart a colour to the diamond and when this is rare, it makes the diamond very expensive.

Will Diamond Rings Soon Have A Bahrain Connection?

Sunday, November 27th, 2011

It looks like loose diamonds will have another hub soon and that is going to be Bahrain. There are some very ambitious plans in the pipeline to make this city a diamond hub and the Chamber of Commerce is talking to the Gemmological Institute in the USA to get them to set up a GIA office there.

There is a GIA office in Dubai but the people in Bahrain feel that the place is better situated in order to cater to the demand in the Gulf region. So loose diamonds would be brought into Bahrain and then sent out to the other places from there. This would be especially convenient for the cities in Saudi Arabia where there is a great demand for diamonds to make diamond rings and diamond jewellery. For this, customs duties for both importing and sending out the diamonds will have to be looked at in order to make the proposition a viable one. Today, there are traders who deal in rough diamonds but there is no official GIA office through which loose diamonds can be brought in and sold.

Bahrain holds the Jewellery Arabia Expo which attracts a lot of people who want to buy gold, diamonds and other precious stones. They get a number of buyers from the Gulf region as well as Yemen, Afghanistan and Sudan. Granted, when there was trouble in Bahrain, it upset the gold trade there but it has put that behind it and come back stronger and more willing to be a strong presence in the gold and diamond markets again.

De Beers Diamond Rings Will Not Have Oppenheimer Name Anymore

Saturday, November 26th, 2011

The Oppenheimer family has sold out its stake in De Beers to Anglo American and so ends an era. This was the family that was responsible, almost single-handedly for adding the glamour to diamonds and for the huge advertising campaign that pitched diamonds as the best gems for engagement rings because it was forever. One would have thought that their interest in the South African diamond mines would also be forever but it was not to be.

In times of the financial crisis engulfing the world and in discord within the growing family, it looks like the dynasty has decided to throw in the towel and get out of the business that began largely due to their effort. Considering their roots are in South Africa, it is likely that a huge part of the amount of money that they will be receiving will be reinvested right there and sources say that it looks like they are going to start a private equity joint venture fund. The family still lives on the family estate that was built in 1922 and their history has been entwined with that of South Africa’s. It was here that British Prime Minister Harold Wilson stayed when he came to give the speech to the South African parliament.

The move comes in the wake of a family feud that has raged for years with some members feeling that it was time to pull out and not pump in money into De Beers which went through a very bad patch, especially three years ago. Borrowing money to put into the company meant that their own inheritance decreased a lot and this is what some of the family members were objecting to. The debts have been piling up and things came to a head and the sale was done. The family still has a 2% stake in the company but it is to be seen whether the new company will keep an Oppenheimer on in the top post.

Heirloom Engagement Ring Lost A Week Before Wedding

Friday, November 25th, 2011

It isn’t easy for Kacey from Somers, Wisconsin in America. Just a week before her wedding when she should be busy with the final arrangements for the wedding, she is filled with sadness that she lost her heirloom diamond engagement ring. A ring that belonged to her fiancé’s grandmother and which she feels is irreplaceable.

She works at a cake decorating store and as she cannot wear the ring while she is working, she leaves it at home. That morning, she noticed that she had the ring on so she removed it and put it into her purse. Then, after work, she realised that she had left her car keys inside the car so she and her brother-in-law tried to get the car open. While this was happening, she put her purse on top of the car. It must have taken them around fifteen minutes and when they managed to get the car door open, she was so relieved, she forgot about the bag on top, got into the car and drove off.

Then, at an intersection, another driver told her that her bag had fallen off on the road. By the time she turned around and went to the spot, the bag was gone. She was all set to call and cancel her credit cards when it hit her – that one day, her beautiful engagement ring had been there too. It was a beautiful one-carat princess cut diamond ring with two round diamonds flanking the large diamond on either side. It’s been a tough time for Kacey because her heart is set on finding that ring and she has appealed to anyone who might have found it to return it to her.

Is Sharon Tate’s Engagement Ring Going To Be Auctioned?

Thursday, November 24th, 2011

The engagement ring that Roman Polanski gave Sharon Tate is supposed to come up for auction and when it does, it is sure to spark off a lot of controversy and debate. The ring is a gold ruby ring which Roman Polanski gave to her way back in 1967. Then she was murdered by Charles Manson and his gang and the tragedy was compounded because she was pregnant.

The ring is valued at a great deal of money and it’s bound to cause a lot of interest when it goes under the hammer. The thing is, people want to know if it really is Sharon Tate’s gold engagement ring. There have been differing reports about it. One says that Roman Polanski took it off her finger when he went to identify the body and gave it to a friend and the auction house says that the director has verified the ring that is going to be auctioned. However, Sharon’s sister says that she had given the ring away to a friend a long time ago and it was not the real engagement ring. The director had given it to her but it was not the official engagement ring so she wasn’t wearing it the night she was killed because she had already given it away. The auction house claims to have a written verification by the director as well as photographic proof.

The auction is all about celeb memorabilia and it will also auction a jacket belonging to Justin Bieber – the one he wore in the Super Bowl commercial, jackets and shoes belonging to Elvis and one of Madonna’s bustiers among other things. That being said, it is bound to attract a lot of interest.

American Footballer Never Takes Off His Wedding Ring

Wednesday, November 23rd, 2011

Sportsmen who play with their wedding rings on are few and far between. However, American Buffalo Bills footballer of the NFL keeps his wedding ring on, no matter what. He says in the five and a half years that he has been married, he hasn’t taken off his ring for anything. Not when he plays nor has a shower or even when he had to change diapers.

Most players take their wedding rings off and leave them at home or in their lockers but not Ryan Fitzpatrick. In this game, quarterbacks like him are especially careful to make sure their wedding ring is off while they are playing but he does not see the need for it and continues wearing it. What helps of course, is the fact that he wears the ring on his left hand and throws with his right so it does not put too much pressure on his left hand. He also says that he isn’t really making a statement here or trying to bring the issue to the forefront. For him, it is something personal and he feels that for him, it should stay on. His platinum wedding ring has the date of the wedding inscribed on it and to date, has fitted him well and has not needed any resizing.

Should a player wear his wedding band always or not? It really is each one’s decision. Most players take it off to avoid the risk of injury and when it comes to injury, many wives would probably tell their sports person husbands that it does not matter. Some wear a rubber band in place of the wedding ring to signify that they are married and some just leave the wedding ring off for the length of the game. One player says that he leaves it off and with it, he stops being a husband and becomes a monster on the field so he feels it is all right to keep it off for that period.

Wedding Ring Has A Lot Of Sentimental Value

Monday, November 21st, 2011

A Thatcham resident lost her wedding ring recently and she has sent out a plea to ask anyone who might have found it to return it. She doesn’t quite know where the ring must have fallen off but it could be anywhere because she first went to Newbury, the marketplace there, then to Hungerford and then to the Tutti Pole cafe. Now where it could have got lost is the question. She was with a client and after she dropped the person off, she went home.

The wedding ring had belonged to her mother and now it is her wedding ring and it holds a lot of sentimental value for her. He husband helped her look for it when she realised it was missing. Her father is suffering from dementia and for him, this ring is something that seems to bring back memories. The ring makes him remember a bit and he recollects things from his past. Though they retraced her steps, the ring was nowhere to be found. This loss has left the 35-year old housewife devastated.

She is a dementia support worker and this wedding ring has such wonderful memories for both her and her father. She has offered anyone who finds it a reward and she is hoping that some kind soul would have picked it up and will return it to her, feeling that the wedding ring could have a huge sentimental value for someone.
