Sources say that former Beatle Sir Paul McCartney is all set to get married to his American girlfriend this weekend. The couple is in the UK and it looks like it’s going to be a very private affair at his Sussex place. That’s probably why they are keeping things so hush-hush but people in the know say that the preparations are on for the wedding ceremony to be held this weekend. The fact that champagne and chairs have been delivered to the estate has just confirmed the ceremony.
Nancy is from New York – an American heiress and she and Paul have been together for four years now though they only confirmed their engagement four months ago. The couple apparently have already selected their wedding rings from Neil Lane and it looks like though they will be getting married quietly in the UK, there will be a big party for all their friends in New York. 51 year old Nancy knew that 69 year old Paul would like to get married in the UK.
This is Paul’s third marriage – the first ended tragically when he lost Linda to breast cancer. Then came the much publicised wedding at the Irish castle to Heather and the acrimonious parting of ways. This time, everyone hopes that it’s third time lucky for him – everyone who knows them say they are made for each other and they make each other very happy.
If you have a moment please take a look at our latest video where you can learn more about Samara James, the people who work in the company and the diamond jewellery that we are passionate about.
Today, if a couple were to book flights to Thailand, it could well be that they are planning to get married there. Suddenly, it has grown to become quite a favourite wedding destination and tour operators are doing everything they can to make couples’ trips as enjoyable as they can. There are other places as well that couples like to go to where they can get married and these include Australia and Mauritius.
Why would couples want to go all the way across the globe to get married? Sure, a place like Thailand is exotic and romantic but could there be any other reason as well? One reason, according to a wedding planner is that a wedding like this could mean not having to plan a huge wedding party. It would be just the couple and most tour operators would take care of all the arrangements. So it would not be a tiring time planning for the event and having to cater to so many friends and family members.
Maybe the reason why Thailand tops the list is because it has the most wonderful variety of gold and gems available. So it means that a couple can get to choose from a wide array and pick just the wedding rings they want. And what could be better than flying off to one destination to have both the wedding ceremony as well as the honeymoon right there? For those who don’t really want all the fuss of a large wedding but want to just be by themselves, this really is a great way to go off and get married.
Or a wedding ring, or any ring for that matter. With the price of gold having shot up so much, more and more people are thinking of recycling the rings that they have in their possession – wedding rings, engagement rings or diamond rings they may have inherited. Of course, some people prefer to just sell the gold and buy new gold or exchange what they have for another ring of the same value. However, the trend today is seeing more and more people taking what they have and having them made into new jewellery for themselves.
The thing is, gold is never, ever thrown away – unless of course it was buried with royalty like the Egyptians or lost – at sea, in rivers, in soil. Otherwise, all the gold mined is passed down and recycled from generation to generation. So imagine – you could well be wearing gold that was mined in the time of ancient civilisations. And yet, except for the few who could afford to keep buying more gold and keep the old jewellery till they became heirlooms, most people recycled and upgraded their jewellery by making them into more modern designs.
The great thing about recycling old jewellery is that you don’t feel the pinch of how high priced most precious metals and gems are. It also means that you get yourself a piece of jewellery that is contemporary and looks new. Very few people want to wear someone else’s engagement ring or wedding ring so this is a great way to wear something new and yet not pay the earth for it. This could even work if you don’t really like your engagement or wedding ring because they are old fashioned or they look worn out. With the same metal and gem stone, you can make a new improved piece of jewellery, feeling that you are still wearing the same thing in a new avatar.
The 33.19 carat diamond ring that Richard Burton gave Elizabeth Taylor is going to be auctioned at a Christie’s auction this December. So is a lot of the other incredible jewellery she owned and among this will be several wedding rings – after all, she was married so many times and two of them were given to her by Richard Burton because they were married twice.
Some of the other pieces of jewellery that will be auctioned include some more gifts by Richard Burton to her. One is a necklace which has a 55-carat pearl in the centre. He bought this pearl at an auction and it was a part of the Spanish Crown jewels. Elizabeth Taylor had it made into a necklace by Cartier by surrounding it by rubies and pearls. It really was a fitting setting for a pearl that seemed to be the most perfect one ever. There is also an art deco necklace put up for auction and this was his fortieth birthday present to her. There’s also a Cartier set that Mike Todd gave her.
There are a number of rings that will be auctioned as well as brooches of which she had many. One was given to her by Richard Burton at the premiere of Night of the Iguana and there’s another that she bought which belonged to the Duchess of Windsor. She also bought herself an emerald set in Rome during the time Cleopatra was being shot. The auction will be displayed in many places. The exhibition will start in Moscow in a few days’ time and will end in December when the auction will be held.
What would a church wedding be without the joyful ringing of church bells? When you exchange wedding rings in a religious service, the sound of wedding bells ringing is such a wonderful start to married life. One would think that ringing a bell is just a simple matter of pulling on the bell rope but ask the bell ringers at St. Peter’s at Leeds and they will tell you how it is a very special art and there are complex methodologies involved as the bells have to ring differently for different occasions.
When the new steeple in this church was being built, the bells had to be taken down and stored and the official bell ringers had to take a break from bell ringing. Now that the steeple is built and the bells and their ropes are back in place, the bell ringers are back but they feel that a new generation needs to be trained to keep the art alive. So an open day is being hosted and those with potential will be given training. Apparently it takes around a year of training before one can control the bell. After that, you are taught the various ways of ringing the bells.
St Peter’s has bells that are of various sizes and weights – and there are eight of them, of which the heaviest weighs around half a tonne. The great thing is, as the bells are all on roller bearings today, you don’t need to be strong to pull that rope and make the bell ring. You could be very young or very old – all that is needed is to master the technique.
It is famous both for the number of weddings conducted every day there and for the number of celebrities that have got married there. The Westminster Registry Office is also known as the Old Marylebone Town Hall and what a glorious history it has! This registry office is the busiest one in all of London and people love this town hall for its wonderful architecture and of course, the fact that it is so centrally located.
Let’s take a look at the celebrity weddings that this town hall has witnessed. There was and Paul and Linda McCartney’s wedding in the sixties that created quite a stir considering just how popular the Beatles were. And nearly twenty years later, Ringo Starr also got married here. There are four rooms here where a couple can choose to get married in and people usually choose depending on the number of people with them. The Yellow Room can hold around twenty people, the Blue Room holds thirty, the Purple Room could hold eighty and the Reception Room can hold a hundred. Many people choose rooms depending on which celebrity was married there and of course, Paul McCartney is one of the favourites.
The Westminster town hall was built in 1920 and it is the place where all the births and deaths of the area are registered. It is also the place where ceremonies that welcome people from other countries into the UK when they become citizens are held. The building is very imposing and it has witnessed so many weddings there. Maybe many people who don’t want a religious ceremony still feel the need to get married in a place that has a bit of old world charm and history. Whatever the reason, it is the most popular place to get a marriage registered.
After that huge romantic Maldives holiday and all the hype surrounding it, one would have thought that Sarah Harding and Tom Crane would be in a rush to get married but like many celebrity relationships, it looks like this one has hit an obstacle as well. Sources say that they have had a huge spat and that the wedding is off. So much for all that romance.
Earlier, friends had predicted that they would be married by the beginning of 2012 but after that romantic New Year’s Eve engagement, it really does look like there will be no wedding ring to follow the engagement ring. They have been together since 2007 so it really did look like it would be a long-term thing – they have had a lot of time together, haven’t they? Of course, the gossip also goes that the Girls Aloud star also went to Ibiza where Tom Crane is to try and patch things up but it does not look good. Especially after it hasn’t been just one big fight but a series of them and it looks like they were pretty serious ones otherwise it would not have got to a point when they were fighting so badly with each other.
However, Sarah is trying hard not to let it affect her and she has been out trying to party and appear as though nothing has happened or that even if it did, she isn’t too affected by it. The sad thing, according to those who know them is that they are so in love with each other and it would be a pity if they were to go their separate ways without patching things up. Tom is a DJ in Ibiza and Sarah seems to be in London catching up with her career.
A study says that over 50% of British people would like to leave their possessions to their family and there is a miniscule percentage that says that they would not want to leave what they own to their children. Among the things that they would like to mention in their wills would be their property, their money and of course, their engagement and wedding rings.
What most of them felt would be that an inheritance would be a great way for the younger generation to boost their income or savings. The main factor that emerged of course, was property and nearly 60% felt that this asset was what they most wanted to pass down to their children and grandchildren. Then of course, was money and they no doubt felt that they money they earned and saved was going to their family to make their lives better. Then came the wedding and engagement rings and they were specially mentioned in the wills because after all, many of them are worth a lot today. 4 out of 10 people who were interviewed said they would put down how the wedding rings and engagement rings were to be distributed.
And what of the ones who stood to inherit? There were a number of them who said that they would welcome it and there were those who relied on it to one day make their lives easier and more comfortable. In fact, many of them were rather far sighted, saying that if they inherited something, they would put it towards a retirement fund or savings that would help them to have a more comfortable later life.
A man on his way to get married couldn’t make it to his own wedding because he was held up by immigration personnel. And all because of an immigration law that he didn’t know even existed. After being grilled for hours, he was put on a plane back to the USA and it left his poor fiancée waiting for him. And Edward is a retired attorney from Los Angeles.
However, it all ended happily for both of them because they got married a few days later than scheduled in Toronto, Canada. The couple have been dating for some years now and though it was a long distance relationship, they feel it was the ideal arrangement. It all began when Edward came to Dornoch and stayed in Marelle’s B&B while he was on a golfing trip. From then, there was no looking back. He came back again soon and they worked out this arrangement where she goes and stays with him in the months that she closes her B&B, away from the cold winters in Scotland while he comes to play gold between April and September.
So why did he have to spend the night locked up in the airport and then sent back? Well, Edward had gone shopping for wedding rings and when he came back, he just happened to mention that he was coming back to get married. When immigration officials asked him for his marriage visa, he didn’t have one because he didn’t know he had to get one. That’s why he was put on a plane going back to the USA the next day. They talked to each other on Skype from both sides of the Atlantic and they found that they could get married quickly in Toronto so that’s what they did finally. And they both feel it was well worth it!
