Lady Finds Old Wedding Ring On Beach
In Maine in the US, a lady was walking along the beach when she suddenly found an old wedding ring. It was a gold wedding band and inside it, there was an inscription that said CCD to MAL Dec 25 1880. So of course, Carrie, who found the ring, just had to satisfy her curiosity and try and discover just who the ring had belonged to.
So she asked her mother who was a town clerk to try and do so and they did manage to trace a Charles C Dixon who got married to Miranda A Lewis in May 1881. So why was the date different? Or was it not these people at all? Still, the initials matched so well. If there was another couple, why wasn’t their marriage listed in the town records? So many questions and Carrie was so anxious to find out.
She then suddenly realised that it was not a wedding band but probably an engagement ring because in those days, most engagement rings were made of solid gold. So the man could have proposed with a ring on Christmas Day and then got married the following May. Of course, it might just be another couple altogether and the ring could have been something off a shipwreck. Carrie feels the fun is in the imagining – there are so many possibilities when you find a ring like this. So she is wearing it on her finger right now and if someone who is a descendant of this couple comes to claim it, she will hand it over to them.
