British Men Prefer To Propose With An Engagement Ring On Holiday

Four out of ten men in the UK take the woman they love on a holiday and then propose to them. Maybe they want to get away from it all and put the woman in a relaxed frame of mind before they pop the question. And the most favoured destination? You’ll never guess – it’s the US! At least that is what a recent poll survey has found. No blue seas or blue skies on a deserted island? Oh no – it’s America and probably a nice restaurant in which to do the proposing. If not, it was a well-known landmark or monument. If it wasn’t the US, the choice of destination was Spain, France or Italy.

So does this getting away to do it and slip the engagement ring on the girl’s finger make them more confident? Apparently not, as many of the men were nervous and unsure. The survey also showed that many men did not feel that the proposal went as they had planned it and they felt that their nerves were the cause of the proposal being botched up. They also felt that they just didn’t seem to find the perfect moment in which to propose. Most of them spent over 500 on the engagement and around £2000 on the engagement ring. They also spent 2 ½ to 4 months preparing for the holiday.

So did the women have an inkling as to what awaited them? Over a quarter of them were sure they were going to get a proposal while 7 out of 10 suspected that it would probably happen. Where the men were concerned, many of them were too nervous to propose at the beginning of the holiday and waited till the middle or even till the end – that was how nerve-racking it was for many of them.
