Is SuBo Wearing An Engagement Ring?

Sunday, March 20th, 2011

There’s a humungous ring on her finger – the thing is, is it an engagement ring? Britain’s Got Talent star isn’t telling. However, the ring was very much in evidence when she appeared for an event in Glasgow. She had come to launch a Lent campaign for the Wee Box Big Change. The wee box is a box to put in the money that you save from giving up Lent treats and the money collected will go to countries all over the world that are really poor. Susan Boyle is doing just that this Lent. Now that is such a charitable gesture.

So when she had that sparkler on at the event, the inevitable questions began – was she engaged? Did she plan to get married soon? The ring was very like the royal ring – it looks like everyone wants a ring like that. There was a huge oval sapphire in the centre and around it were diamonds, Susan Boyle had confessed to Weekend Magazine sometime ago that she had a boyfriend a long time ago and his name was John. They had known each other for only seven weeks when he had asked her to marry him. She also confessed that all that happened between them was a kiss – on the cheeks. As she says, it didn’t happen because he got scared.

Well, her life right now is very different. She’s rich, she’s famous and we doubt whether the man in her life right now will get cold feet. She’s broken a few records along her incredible journey – twice No. 1 on the UK and the US charts in the same year, topping the popularity of Elvis and Madonna and being called ‘superwoman’ by Simon Cowell – well, he must be benefiting as well because his company Syco has signed her up.

Diamond Ring For a Cause

Saturday, March 19th, 2011

An online jeweller was donating a diamond ring worth around £4000 for a very special cause – children with cancer. They said the ring, which would be custom-made would go to the person who had the most convincing Facebook message for this cause. Naomi Fehr from Winnipeg won the ring and she is going to be auctioning it in order to raise even more funds for the cause.

Naomi has a nine year old son and he has survived cancer twice and has been under treatment for three months. During that time, Naomi got help from this group called the Candlelighters and so when she put up a message on Facebook, there were over 700 people who voted. Naomi says there was no way she could have won the ring without her friends and family who supported her and she is thrilled that she too can now raise money to support this incredible cause.

The group Candlelighters supports childhood cancer and it is made up essentially of parents who have children who suffered from this dreaded disease. It was formed in order to give support to the parents who were going through this suffering with a child. Within the group, some children recover, some are going through with treatment and some parents just come in for comfort after losing a child to cancer. There’s a cancer camp that is conducted once a year to which many families come. This is a great outing for children who suffer from cancer because as Naomi says, many of these children feel left out of things that ordinary, healthy children take for granted. A child who suffers from cancer is always a touching, poignant subject and Naomi feels any help in this direction is very worth it.

Facebook Solves Diamond Ring Theft

Friday, March 18th, 2011

There are a number of people who curse the invasive quality of social networking sites but they have their advantages as well. Take this case of how a picture uploaded onto Facebook helped solve a case of theft. A twenty year old girl uploaded a picture of a diamond ring and put a caption on it saying her boyfriend had presented it to her. The ring had a 3-carat diamond and it had been given to her by her 21 year old boyfriend.

There had been a theft recently and a diamond ring as well as some valuables had been stolen. It just so happened that the person’s roommate’s friend happened to see the picture of the diamond ring on Facebook. From then on, the police were informed and they honed in on the thief. Both of them have been charged with theft. He had apparently hawked the other items but kept the ring. When the police came to get them, the girl said that her boyfriend had taken the diamond ring to get it resized.

Why her, one might ask? She might just have been the recipient and couldn’t have known that her boyfriend had just slipped a stolen ring on her finger. However, according to his grandmother, she had kept nagging him about wanting a ring and maybe the pressure was so much that he couldn’t resist stealing for her. They had been partying in the victim’s house when the boy had quietly stolen all those items. They couldn’t put up a bond so both have been sent to jail. So thanks to Facebook, what has surfaced again is that all cannot be fair in love and if you steal, you will be caught most likely and have to face the consequences.

Diamond Rings Amid Ruins

Thursday, March 17th, 2011

Fortunately, a diamond is forever as a woman in Nebraska, America realised when she found four of her diamond rings in the ruins of a burned down building. Till a month ago, she was the operator of a hotel but the building burned down and in her hurry to get out of it, she left her four diamond rings in the hotel room.

The diamond rings had six diamonds and two of them were around 0.75 carat each. They were all highly valued so it was a wrench when she thought she had lost them. Then, after everything had dies down, her rings were found in the debris and she was so ecstatic, she cried. The people working to clear the site were sifting the debris through a screen when her rings were found. A cameo that belonged to her was also found and so was a purse but they were slightly damaged. The diamond rings, however, were in perfect condition ad she took them off to a jeweller who only polished them but told her they had suffered no damage at all.

The purse had been new – she had just bought it before the fire and when it was found, there was a dollar coin in it. The lady intends to keep that coin as a memento of the day the fire happened and of how fortunately she got back all of her rings. Helping the mining operators to find the valuable rings had been the lady’s nephew and she thanked all the boys who joined in the search and helped her find her rings.

Falsely Collecting Insurance On Wedding And Engagement Ring

Wednesday, March 16th, 2011

Yes, there are many who do it and they think they can get away with it but insurance companies are not easily fooled. Even if they are, they can get back at you if they find out that you have made a false claim. There is this case of a woman in America who filed a claim for her wedding and engagement rings, saying they had been stolen. She and her husband were separated and they were in the middle of a divorce when she reported that the rings had been stolen from her and put in a claim.

The insurance company released her claim amount but what happened later made them realise that the woman had submitted a false claim. What had really happened was that she returned the wedding ring and engagement ring to her husband when he asked for them back. Then, she lodged a claim stating they were stolen and the insurance company paid up. However, once a claim has been paid, the premiums go up and that went to the husband who was paying the insurance premiums. The premium stated that it was higher because of the claim and that’s when the husband realised what had happened and informed the insurance company that the rings were in his possession and that his wife had handed them over to him.

Well, the lady stands to be imprisoned for up to seven years – crime really does not pay. She is up for larceny and insurance fraud in the third degree and first degree for falsifying those business records. The sentence is expected to come next month and no doubt her conviction will deter many others who want to make a dishonest buck through insurance fraud.

Wedding Ring Flushed And Found

Tuesday, March 15th, 2011

We wonder just how many plumbers have been called in to try and recover diamond engagement rings and wedding rings that have been flushed down the toilet or the drain. Not every incident results in the joyful reunion of ring with owner but there are a few real-life heart-warming stories and one of them happened last month, on Valentine’s Day of all days!

It all began early in the morning of the day of love when a housewife in the US realised that her wedding ring, valued at over £6000 had been flushed down the toilet. The lady has a baby daughter, six weeks old then and that was why she was awake at 4 in the morning. She hadn’t taken off her rings so she did so and also pulled the flush and suddenly realised that a ring had fallen in when she heard a sound. She was frantic and she looked all over the bathroom, hoping it had fallen on the floor – the worst part was, the ring was not insured. Her husband, a former Minnesota Vikings and a Steelers player, wasn’t as affected and told her to accept it and forget about it but she couldn’t and she asked a neighbour, a plumber to help. He went and bought a vacuum attachment and after a while, they found the wedding ring in the middle of a debris of eggshells. It took them over three hours but it was so worth it.

Her husband of six years was more surprised that they found the ring than that she lost it. As for the lady, she’s so happy and so grateful to the neighbour. She also makes sure that the toilet seat stays down and shut before she removes her rings. In fact, she’s paranoid about it – maybe she has reason to be.

Paris In Spring And An Engagement Ring?

Monday, March 14th, 2011

There’s probably nothing Christine Bleakley would like better than an engagement ring on her finger. And what better place to have that engagement ring slipped onto your finger than in romantic Paris? That’s where Frank Lampard and Christine are on a break from his hectic sporting commitments. So is spotting them in the romantic city enough to start speculating? No, it isn’t just that – they were seen in the jewellery centre in Paris – that golden triangle that is filled with the top names in jewellery designs and that is what seems to have fuelled the rumours that there might be an engagement in the offing.

Apparently they visited quite a number of jewellery stores – from Chopard to Patek to Cartier but the question still remains – were they looking for a diamond engagement ring or were they just looking at jewellery in general – maybe watches or earrings, perhaps? But they have been together for a long time and naturally there are many waiting and watching to see if wedding bells are going to be ringing any time soon. When the couple is seen at some of the most expensive jewellery shops, though, people are bound to whisper and wonder about a diamond engagement ring.

Christine would love to get married and she would love to have children together but she’s waiting for him to do the asking. She did talk about it a bit with the magazine SHE and said that she would love for it to happen but she is happy just being with him and the way things are. Apparently Lampard jokes about getting married but till he asks her for sure, she and everyone will just have to wait. Does the Chelsea footballer want to get married? If he is thinking along those lines, nothing better than a proposal in Paris!

Diamond Rings In Drainpipe

Sunday, March 13th, 2011

There’s a shock value in finding diamond rings in, of all places, drainpipes – they just don’t go together. But when you find diamond jewellery from Harry Winston in drainpipes, that really makes news. So how did they end up there? They were found in a drainpipe in Paris’s suburbs in the north and they were valued at nearly £13 million – now that’s some cache to be found in a place like that.

It happened two years ago when thieves dressed in wigs with scarves wrapped around them executed a well-planned robbery of a Harry Winston store in Paris. The store was situated in an area where there were many other upmarket jewellery stores as well. It happened around Christmas in 2008 and there were four men involved and three of them had disguised themselves as women. They made off with jewellery that was worth around £65 million according to Harry Winston and the media dubbed it the theft of the century because it was so precisely and well planned. They brandished a grenade and made off with the loot.

Some of them were caught and some of the jewellery recovered but not all. This cache was in a plastic container and set in concrete. Though the thieves had barked instructions in an East European accent, they were actually local thieves from the suburbs of Paris. Some of the jewels that were discovered were a diamond ring with a diamond the size of a marble. However, the final value of the jewellery was reduced considerably and the insurers felt the store had just put the value up to get a big settlement. The final payment was much less that the original stated amount.

Royal Engagement Ring Spikes Google Search

Saturday, March 12th, 2011

The moment Prince William slipped that sapphire and diamond engagement ring on Kate’s finger, the frenzy started – there were so many people who wanted a ring just like that. In no time, there were thousands, maybe millions of look-alike rings being churned out and sold at really rock bottom prices. All the women wearing them seemed to want was a ring that looked just like the royal engagement ring.

It had to reflect in the online search engines too and ever since the engagement, there’s been a sharp increase in the search for anything to do with the royal wedding, mainly the engagement ring. Well, there has also been a sharp increase in searches for flights to London so maybe people don’t just want to wear a look-alike ring – they want to be there for the event as well! However, sapphire engagement rings seem to top the list and no doubt even the ones who wouldn’t settle for cheap rings that are made to look like the real thing, want to share in the flavour of the season – sapphire and diamond rings. Years ago, the same ring was a matter of such great interest to everyone around the world but there was no Internet then and today, the search for this ring has surpassed all expectations.

According to Google, the search results show signs of a frenzy and this has meant that advertisers have had to re-look at their campaigns to be a part of where the action is. This must be especially so if they are selling memorabilia or collectibles. Maybe a royal wedding is always reminiscent of fairy tales and princes and princesses and it looks like this royal couple has set a trend in the interest of the world in royal affairs. Unlike other weddings around the world, a British royal wedding is such a public event and maybe that also keeps the interest going.

Lost Engagement Ring Found Thanks To Facebook

Friday, March 11th, 2011

Who would have thought that a social network could act as a lost and found department? Maybe it is the way things should be, considering that so many people are on Facebook – what a novel way to announce that you’ve lost something – and what better vehicle to find something you have lost? Let’s take a look at one lucky lady and what she found through Facebook.

She was with her son on a beach in New Zealand and they were playing when she suddenly realised that she had lost her engagement ring. They looked all over for it because she knew it had to have fallen on the sand but there was no trace of it. Considering that she was getting married in April, she was distraught and she just wanted her engagement ring back on her finger again. So, in desperation, she posted the loss in Facebook and it was the most fortunate thing she did.

She posted it as her status and a friend saw it, reposted it and asked others to do so too. Someone saw it and offered to ask her son to lend them his metal detector. Her son had helped to find another ring before this. Well, it worked. The lady’s fiancé and his friend went with the metal detector to the beach and searched all over. They found the ring after 36 hours – it had been buried in the sand. For the lady, her wedding day will just shine brighter because her engagement ring will be back on her finger – all thanks to Facebook. Just one update of a status message is all it took to get the message about a lost engagement ring flying through cyberspace and how quickly the offer from help came.

Prize For The Ugliest Engagement Ring

Thursday, March 10th, 2011

There’s an online jeweller in the USA who has announced a contest for the weirdest thing – the ugliest engagement ring. If you were to ask women, many of them will tell you that they did, in fact, think their man’s choice was rather bad when it came to choosing a ring. Men love this whole romantic proposal thing so they go out, spend hours choosing what they feel is the perfect ring and then plan on the perfect proposal. All very romantic – but how many women really like the reengagement ring that they haven’t chosen themselves? After all, it is the woman who has to wear the ring – hopefully for the rest of her life.

So, according to this jeweller, called Since1910.com, there are many women who love to get a proposal for the man they love but secretly do not like the engagement ring at all. Of course, love will make them pretend they do while inside, their mind goes ‘Ugh!’ Maybe this is why most women like it when they get a proposal that is romantic but can go along with their man to choose the ring. Then she can choose something she likes as well as something that is comfortable and suits her hand.

So what does this jeweller offer? Till the 6th of April, any woman who thinks her engagement ring is ugly can take a picture of the ring and upload it to their site with a description about the diamond ring. In August, the winner will be chosen depending on the most number of ‘likes’ on their Facebook page. So any woman who loves her husband yet doesn’t quite like her ring can hope to get a new one that will be worth over £3000. That’s what the winner will get – and maybe she will fall in love all over with her husband again.
