Lost Antique Diamond Ring Surfaces Two Years Later
Sunday, November 7th, 2010
Two years ago, Joan Spiers lost a gold antique ring with diamonds at the Charlwood Hotel in Surrey. She was devastated as can be expected and sought the help of the local waste management firm to try and retrieve it. Colin and Julie French, the owners of the firm in Dorking said they did everything they could but there was no trace of the ring.
So what exactly did they do to try and find it? They emptied the sewage tank and went through 12,000 gallons of sewage, putting it all through a filter to see if they could find the ring. They sent someone down with a metal detector. They even put a camera in the sewage tank to see if they could locate the ring in case it had got stuck somewhere but they couldnât find it. Two years later, an employee of their firm right there in their sewage works and took it to Colin. The moment he saw it, he knew who the ring belonged to because he had seen a picture of the ring.
The antique gold ring had a certified centre diamond with smaller diamonds around it. It had been given to Joan Spiers, a Conservative leader by her late husband. So, besides being an expensive ring, it was emotionally very dear to her as well. She was so grateful and sent the ring off to be cleaned professionally. Two of the smaller diamonds had gone missing but Joan Spiers was thrilled to just get the ring back.
