The Shah Diamond was discovered in India in the 15th century. For generations, the Shah Diamond was the symbol of royalty in India. However, when a member of the Russian diplomatic corps serving in India was murdered in the early 19th century, the gem was offered to the Russian government as a means of preventing retaliation for the death. The Shah Diamond left India forever and is in the Kremlin in Moscow at this time.
