Where Does The Engagement Ring Go When The Wedding Ring Goes On?

There are so many women who are faced with this dilemma just before they take their wedding vows. What does one do with the engagement ring which has so far occupied the place of pride on the third finger of the left hand? Does one shift it to another finger on the same hand or shift it to the right hand? There are, of course, many solutions to this question, the most accepted one being that the engagement ring is slipped on to the third finger of the right hand during the wedding ceremony and then slipped back on top of the wedding ring. There is a general belief that the vein from the third finger of the left hand connects directly to the heart – so, what better way to keep the ring close to your heart? This theory is rubbished by the medical fraternity, but it really doesn’t matter if you cheat a bit when it comes to matters of the heart!

Engagement Ring vs. Wedding Ring

Both these rings are symbols of love, the everlasting kind which will be the foundation of life together, the strength on which families will be started, a love which promises to cherish each other forever. – but the engagement ring always brings back the heady feeling of being hopelessly in love, the euphoria of having found your life partner, of existing solely for each other. One is blissfully unaware of the outside world, living only for the time spent together. The wedding ring on the other hand, brings a sense of solidity to the ‘light as air’ feeling. It is the start of a life of responsibility, of having and raising children, of making a happy home – but it is the mix of these sentiments, the fun together with the responsibilities that keeps us going and makes life worth living.
