Will Our Wedding Rings Now Be Made With Gold From Scotland?
The Scottish highlands have always been known to be rich in gold but there hasn’t been too much of commercial mining for gold here till now. Near a small village by the name of Tyndrum, there was a gold mine called Cononish which was owned by Scotgold. With the help of an Australian company, they have been able to locate a potential windfall as far as deposits are concerned. With the price of gold going through the roof, these deposits could well be worth many millions of pounds.
Initially, it looks like four and a half tonnes of gold are going to be mined and the locals are busy preparing for what they see as a gold rush. From a gold mine visitors’ centre to jewellery boutiques to actual panning expeditions, there seem to be a great many ideas floating around. By 2011, official sources say that there could be enough gold mined to make 30,000 wedding rings annually. The firm will also mine a bit of silver. If the surveys are right, there could be a lot more gold in the area than previously expected.
