Diamond Engagement Rings Go iPhone-wards

Monday, September 7th, 2009

That’s right – you can now source your diamond rings and your engagement rings on your iPhone. What’s more, you can even try them on virtually to make sure that the ring you’ve chosen is exactly the one you want. You can even choose the store from where you can pick it up – the one closest to you.

Stuller from Louisiana in the US seems to have hit it just right. This new iPhone application means that so many can do their diamond engagement shopping in the US on their iPhones. After you make your choice of diamond, what carat it is, what colour, you can then take a picture of your hand with the iPhone camera and the application shows you how the ring you’ve chosen is going to look on your hand. You can then go share these images on Facebook or Twitter or even email them. Choosing an engagement ring is so simple these days!

Lost Wedding Ring Needs Owner

Sunday, September 6th, 2009

Over thirty years ago, a man lost his wedding ring at a camping site in the US and a lady found it. Since no one claimed it, she put it into her jewellery box and there it lay for many years. Meanwhile, the lady lost her husband, married again and the ring continued to be right there. There were thefts in her house too but the ring didn’t go.

So she decided that maybe she should put in a little extra effort and she went to the newspapers. The wedding ring had a date – 1971 – and it had two names – Perry and Lynn engraved on it. So she’s hoping now that somewhere, someone who knows this couple will come forward and claim the ring.

There have been instances of people finding their wedding rings after ages. Rings have been found in dumps, in the stomach of fish, in gardens and in sewers. So Martha Craig, the lady who found that ring many years ago, is hoping that the wedding ring she found will be reunited with its owner.

You Can Still Have Your Diamond Rings

Saturday, September 5th, 2009

There’s nothing quite like diamonds in a diamond ring. So what do you do when you don’t quite have enough to spend on a diamond ring? There are a few ways you could look at, where you can still own a diamond. One way to do it is to buy a diamond that has been clarity-enhanced. These diamonds cost about half the price of flawless diamonds and you really cannot make out the difference unless it’s put under a microscope. What they do is to fill any fissures or lines in the diamond with a filler material.

The other thing you can do is to look at designs that are different. For example, one good diamond in the middle surrounded by many small diamonds. This brings the cost down from buying a solitaire. This design is called the halo diamond ring.

What you could also do is to buy a small diamond – one which you can afford and change it for a bigger one when times get better.

Old Diamonds, New Diamond Rings

Friday, September 4th, 2009

It’s strange how people adapt – well, so do jewellers. In times when disposable incomes are less than they used to be, there’s a new fad going around – designing new diamond rings with old diamonds. This just saves so much money and while you can have a diamond, you don’t pay for it – just the setting.

The diamonds can be from any old diamond ring that you have, it can be an heirloom where the setting is something that is too heavy or something you don’t like. It can be just another diamond ring because you’re tired of your old one, it can be an anniversary ring, a diamond ring gift or even an engagement ring. A ring like this will be unique because you have designed it. And it will be at a price that most people can afford. It’s also a great idea for engagement rings that belonged to mothers or grandmothers, resetting an engagement ring if you have lost your husband or are divorced and even if you’ve never really liked a particular setting. You can even change the metal to make it look absolutely different – choose from yellow gold, white gold or platinum. A new diamond ring at a great price – what a great idea!

Snowdonia Police Hold Lost Engagement Ring And Wedding Ring

Thursday, September 3rd, 2009

The police in North Wales have two rings with them – they look like they are an engagement ring and a wedding ring and they were handed in by the ones who found them into the Llanrwst Police Station. So the police have sent out notices to see who the rings belong to. It isn’t always that lost rings are found and not claimed. Usually the police station is the first place that anyone would go to in order to file a lost item complaint.

The rings were found in Snowdon on the Pyg Trail so it is quite likely that the person lost the rings there but didn’t realise they had been lost. So if anyone has lost two rings, they can contact the police station – it must be such a relief to know one’s lost rings have been found – and even better to know that someone who found them was honest enough to turn them in.

Pensioner In Sidmouth Helps Find 71-Year Old Engagement Ring

Wednesday, September 2nd, 2009

70-year old Wally Cotgrave of Sidmouth and his metal detector are a great boon to many who have lost things in the area as he helps them to look around and find what they have lost with his metal detector. One of his recent finds was an engagement ring that was all of 71 years. Other things that he has found over the years are wedding rings, spectacles, a phone and of course, many artefacts that go back to the Viking era.

The couple who got their ring back was thrilled. So was a person who had lost his phone. When Wally tried calling him after he had found it, the man was furious wondering how Wally had got hold of it – he apologised later and said that the phone had all his business contacts and he was really happy to get it back. So Wally goes down to the beach everyday with his metal detector – you never know what the day could bring!

Platinum Ring Sales Soar

Tuesday, September 1st, 2009

There’s a report in the UK that says that the sales of platinum rings are going up, even while there is talk of cutbacks, lay-offs, recession and bad times. Not just platinum – what seem to be jumping off those shelves are platinum engagement rings which must mean that diamonds are in favour too! If you talk to jewellers in and around London, you’ll find that they all think so.

What people tend to be doing is skimping on the other things that constitute an engagement or wedding. They do not however, seem to be skimping when it comes to diamond rings – especially of they are made of platinum. Some jewellers say that over 80% of their engagement ring sales are platinum. There are billions spent worldwide on the whole wedding celebration and engagement rings make up a huge chunk. You would think that people would cut down in this area but it has not happened. Maybe people see platinum diamond rings also as a great investment.
