Who Buys The Engagement Ring And The Wedding Ring?

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

Traditionally, the man bought the girl’s engagement ring and he bought the wedding ring for her as well while she bought his wedding ring. This still holds true with many couples. However, the winds of change seem to be blowing through the traditions of weddings. From one engagement ring, many have adopted the idea of two wedding rings – one for the man and one for the woman and the wedding rings are either paid for by each other or they are bought as a set and the amount is split between both.

In a time when both individuals are usually working, this makes a lot of sense. The woman too can afford to spend so an equal sharing is a good thing. If the woman’s engagement ring with diamonds costs the man a pretty packet, today, so can a man’s engagement ring. The wedding rings, too, are often more than just simple gold bands and can cost a lot, especially if they are platinum or titanium. Like the wedding expenses that are usually split equally, the time seems to have come for the same happening with engagement rings and weddings rings as well.

China Looking For Larger And Coloured Diamond Rings

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

Hopes rode high in the September Hong Kong Jewellery and Gem Fair as there seemed to be a lot of interest coming from the Chinese market for bigger diamonds as well as coloured diamonds. While the trading could not be stated to be extremely enthusiastic, it spells a lot of hope for the global diamond trade to know that this market could be potentially very big from the interest that is being evinced in the stones on offer.

It’s a huge fair and it covers 120,000 sq. m. of space with over 40 countries participating. There are over 3000 exhibitors and the number is 16% over the last time so that spells hope. It is said to be one of the best jewellery exhibitions around the world. What is popular this year with traders who are placing orders on behalf of the Chinese market are diamonds that are over SI1-VS2 as well as diamonds that are coloured.

Is Blue The Latest Engagement Ring Colour?

Monday, September 28th, 2009

Coloured diamonds seem to be getting quite popular when it comes to engagement rings and the latest colour that seems to be the fad is blue. Considering that very few diamonds come naturally coloured, obviously this trend is pushing up the prices of coloured diamonds. They say that only one diamond in ten thousand is a coloured diamond and if you want a natural and not an artificially coloured diamond, it might need a bit of a search before you find what you want.

You can get blue diamonds in different sizes and prices. Many women will want to look for a unique one to make sure their engagement ring stands out from the crowd. With so many regular white diamonds around, a time had to come when some got a bit bored and looked for something new, something different, something unique. The flavour of the year seems to be blue.

More Engagement Rings Being Sold In China And Asia?

Sunday, September 27th, 2009

It looks like the dazzle of diamonds is back and it’s visible in China and West Asia. It didn’t seem like the diamond market would shine for a long time after the recent meltdown but those fears have been put to rest at least in some parts of the world. In Surat, India, which is the largest cutting and polishing centre in the world, there is jubilation after a period of reduced activity and it augurs well for the sale of diamonds globally.Diamond sales shot up during Eid in the Middle Eastern countries and also the National Day Golden Week in China. This is a fillip to the cutting and polishing industry which was facing a huge reduction thanks to reduced demand from the American and European markets. Hong Kong seems to be leading the march towards more diamond buying what with many Chinese tourists from the mainland visiting the island during the holidays. With the Chinese economy on a roll, one can expect the demand for diamonds to go up even more. And diamond engagement rings are perhaps among the favourite buys with diamonds over one carat being very much in demand!

Diamond Rings And Antiques: A Good Fit?

Saturday, September 26th, 2009

The Canadian Kimberlite Diamond Corporation has joined hands with the Al Ghali Group in the Middle East and will soon be distributing the coloured diamonds that they are famous for through this group that has long been associated with antiques. So the diamonds will find their way to the discerning buyers of the Middle Eastern countries as the Al Ghali Group has had a long relationship with people like these thanks to their exclusive antiques business.

There is also a bit of research going on as to whether it would be a good idea for an office to be set up in Dubai to look after this region. The signing of the joint venture was done at the London office of Genesis, the subsidiary of Kimberlite. The line will be known as Genesis Rare Diamonds. The Middle Eastern group is very confident that there will be a good market for these valuable diamonds which are a great attraction for people looking for investment opportunities.

The Diamond To Beat All Diamonds

Friday, September 25th, 2009

There’s been so much written about and whispered about this gorgeous blue diamond – the Hope Diamond. With a name like that, one would thing that good things followed this diamond around. And yet, in spite of its incredible beauty and worth, the history of the Hope Diamond has been littered with tales of treachery, tragedy and teardrops. That’s the shape of the diamond – a perfect teardrop that glistens and dazzles gloriously.

It’s been 50 years since the house of Harry Winston presented the Hope Diamond to the Smithsonian Institute and to celebrate its being there for half a century, it is being taken out of its vault where it lies within a bracket in a display case. For the first time in years, the public have the pleasure of seeing the diamond in its naked glory. The Director of the Institute had it wheeled into a heavily guarded press conference covered with a white cloth – and the cloth was dramatically whipped off to reveal the beautiful blue gem. The diamond that is viewed by over five million people every year. And there was a contest announced too - to select one of three settings for the diamond to be displayed in. The winning one was called ‘Embracing Hope’.

Jewish Wedding Rings

Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009

In Jewish weddings today, the wedding ring is a very important part of the marriage ceremony. What is also important is how the ring is made. It should be solid, with no holes or any kind of design that in any way destroys the solidity. The rings are usually made of gold and this band is a symbol of the continuity of marriage. In the kabbalah tradition, the rings are made of solid silver. There can be designs or embellishments on the band and what most people have are inscriptions in Hebrew. This could be the names of the couples or it could be a phrase in Hebrew.

The wedding ring is usually gifted by the bridegroom’s family and only one ring is required for the marriage to be solemnized. Today, though, both the bride and the groom can exchange and wear wedding rings. In the traditional ceremony, the bridegroom slips the ring onto the bride’s right hand – on the index finger. The bride later shifts the ring onto her left hand.

An Engagement Ring Among Olympic Rings

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009

Love in the time of the Olympics seems to be what this couple had in mind. In the new 2012 Olympic Games stadium that is under construction, Tom Clift proposed to girlfriend Rachel Walker who had participated in the Olympic Games last year as a part of the women’s hockey team. They were among a group of people who had been invited to see the progress of the stadium. She said a very willing Yes, of course.

Tom works for a company that is promoting the Olympic Games this year so the Games are a strong part of both their lives. Given that, it was only fitting that the Olympic rings were witness to the engagement ring ceremony. Tom is very hopeful that when the stadium is done and the Games begin, he’ll be there to cheer for Rachel playing and the home team hopefully winning the gold.

Are Your Engagement Rings And Wedding Rings Insured?

Monday, September 21st, 2009

In a recent study that was done in the UK, it was found that more than half the couples interviewed – and these were all professionals – had not insured all the additional items in their home after they were married. The study was conducted among couples who had got married in the past five years. It showed that 53% of these couples stood to lose a lot of their purchases and gifts during the wedding simply because they had not informed the insurer of these additional items.

The engagement ring and the weddings rings are worth a lot and the couple usually gets gifts in excess of £10,000. So if any of these things are lost when they are not insured, there’s no way of getting anything back on them. So it makes sense to pay extra attention to your insurance if you are getting married and make sure that everything that is insured is updated as soon as you get back from your honeymoon. It really is better to be well insured that to be sorry later.

It looks like Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom are on the brink of getting married – so that would mean that they could be announcing their engagement any time soon. Now why the rush one might ask. The thing is that Lamar Odom plays basketball for the Los Angeles Lakers and he is due to leave for training camp soon – that’s why perhaps the hurry.

So if they are getting married, when is the engagement going to be? Have they decided where the wedding will take place? It’s going to be difficult to put together something in two weeks but it looks like that is what is being planned. Rather quick considering the two met just a month ago at a party. They were spotted looking at engagement rings a few days ago and this of course made the rumours much stronger. The Kardashian clan, especially Kim, her sister, is said to be thrilled with what is happening.
