They’re one of the happiest couples in Hollywood and they’ve been married for eleven years. However, unlike the Beckhams, Will Smith and his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith don’t ever wear their wedding rings. Or if they do sometimes, we haven’t seen them. Jada might wear her engagement ring sometimes but not her wedding ring. Will Smith is never seen with rings on his fingers – unless of course his part in a movie necessitates it for him to wear it during a shoot.

Obviously they don’t seem to think it’s a big thing and they don’t need to show off their wedding rings to tell the world they are married and a couple. The world knows anyway! Maybe they carry the symbol of their marriage in the place where it matters the most – their hearts.

There are a number of couples in Hollywood who like to wear their wedding rings all the time except when they are shooting and the Beckhams fall into that category. They have had their ups and downs perhaps but their marriage is still strong and has lasted all those storms. In LA, they make a fashion statement with everything they do – and their wedding rings on all the time is taken note of too.

David does take his off when he is playing a game but it goes back on again as soon as he’s through, Victoria always has hers on – never mind what other jewellery she is wearing. With all the rocks she wears for rings, her wedding ring is always there.

In Alaska, Elaine lost her wedding ring when she was waiting in a queue for coffee at a coffee shop. They looked all over and turned their hotel room upside down – she and her husband were so distraught at losing the ring. They gave it up as lost for good and left.

Then, just before their second wedding anniversary they got a call for the place they had been to. Apparently a water cooler was being moved and the wedding ring was found underneath. The ring must have slipped and fallen down and Elaine never noticed. When it rolled under the water cooler, it stayed there for two years, away from all eyes.

Elaine might have lost that first wedding ring and she must have been overjoyed to find it, Her husband however promised to make it up to her by buying dozens of them!

George Sydlar was eating out at a Chinese restaurant and he removed his platinum wedding ring to wash his hands. Putting them in his pocket, he forgot to put them back on. He then went to a store to buy lottery tickets. When he got home, he realised his ring was missing. This ex-policeman from New Jersey, USA was saddened by his loss and even went to jewellers in and around that area to see if the ring has surfaced somewhere there. This of course was after he had looked all over the restaurant and store for it. He was quite sure that if someone had found it, they would try and sell it.

Much to his amazement, an employee in the store had found the ring and turned it in. He had put it aside on the counter of the store hoping that the owner of the ring would come back for it. After a few days when George went back to the store, taking a chance that maybe it had turned up, there it was, waiting for him. The person who had found it no longer worked at the shop but it was a great feeling finding his ring.

The star from The Office feels that she does not need to wear her engagement ring all the time and advertise the fact that she is engaged. She doesn’t like wearing it to work so she keeps it off and does not consider it a big deal or fodder for gossip. She would much rather leave it at home than take it off and leave it in the trailer while she is shooting. Makes a lot of sense we think.

She is engaged to Lee Kirk, the writer. In The Office, she plays the part of Pam and that means that she has to wear a ring right through the shoot as part of the character she plays so she would rather not complicate matters by wearing her engagement ring all the time. She’s practical and does not really care what the media writes about.

The chances of the engagement ring getting lost are much higher than a wedding ring and this is perhaps because the engagement ring is usually much heavier. When it comes to an engagement ring, bigger is usually better for most women because it is such a status symbol. Not that the wedding ring is far behind when it comes to celebrities but with the vast majority, the engagement ring is the main item in their lives that they use to ‘show off’.

The fact that it is usually big means that many women take it off to do their household chores and even when they wash their hands. More diamond engagement rings have perhaps been lost because of women taking them off and forgetting about them than any other reason.

Many women do not get the engagement ring fitted perfectly and this is yet another reason why engagement rings get lost. If they did it every time they needed to, the rings would probably be much safer. When they are a size too big for the finger, they could well slip out and fall off and you would never know!

Patti Stranger who plays the matchmaker to the very rich in the American TV reality show The Millionaire Matchmaker has got engaged to her boyfriend, Andy Friedman. He proposed to her with a 4-carat diamond ring in Hawaii and the ring was delivered by Raymond – a black swan!

She’s rated one of the best matchmakers there is and she tends to find the right partner for the people in the show. Add to that her wit and her very pragmatic approach and you’ll see why she is so popular. The strange thing is, while she does matchmaking for a living, she had to depend on another matchmaker to find her a partner – such is life!
