Is Tyra Banks Engaged?

Monday, August 31st, 2009

She’s been seen out with a huge diamond ring on her finger so it looks like the ex-supermodel is all set to walk up that aisle. With her was businessman-financier John Utendahl – they’ve been together for a while now. She says no way but then they all do so one just has to do a bit of waiting and watching to see if that big rock is an engagement ring or not.

Tyra has moved on from being a supermodel to a TV host and she has moved her two successful shows to New York, obviously to be close to her lover. He is one of the most successful African-Americans and also among the richest. He’s the founder and the owner of the largest African –American investment banking services firm in the US.

Diamond Rings Go Fashionably Black

Sunday, August 30th, 2009

Who ever would have thought that black diamonds could be the rage one day? Come on, let’s face it, for so long we’ve always associated diamonds with white and sparkling. However, over the past few years, perceptions have been changing, thanks in no small measure to leading jewellery designers and celebrities who love to set the trend. So suddenly, diamonds went pink, blue, yellow and even brown. So from there to black was just a small step.

Black diamonds are being seen as the new fashion statement for both men and women. They’re calling the black diamond ring the jewellery of reconciliation – so now love means saying sorry with a black diamond ring! Black diamonds are great by themselves as solitaires or they look sensational when you design them with other stones as well. A black and white diamond ring in platinum would be a stunning piece of jewellery to own.

Now Engagement Rings Come With A Free Honeymoon Cruise

Saturday, August 29th, 2009

A jeweller in Harrisonburg, Virginia, USA has come up with a novel idea – to give away a free cruise with an engagement ring. Well, diamond engagement rings are expensive and so are honeymoons so if you get one free, it helps a lot! That’s why Valentine’s Jewellery has joined hands with two cruise lines - Norwegian and Royal Caribbean to promote this scheme.

When a couple buys an engagement ring over a certain value, they will get a coupon for a cruise for two on either of these cruise liners valid for 8 days, 7 nights and they can use it anytime before one year of the purchase is up. What’s more, if you don’t like any of the rings that are available, they will make a ring especially for you, to your specifications. Such a great idea!

And Now, A Wedding Ring Thief

Friday, August 28th, 2009

Can you imagine anyone walking into a jewellery store and running off with just a pair of wedding rings? Sounds bizarre but that is just what a thief did in the Santa Clara County in the US. The store was in a mall and while a salesperson was showing some jewellery to a customer, this man walked in and made off with a pair of wedding rings. All this in broad daylight. Unfortunately for him, he was caught on video so he is going to find it difficult to get away.

Now why would he steal just that his-and-her set of wedding rings? Could he perhaps be thinking of marriage and cannot afford to buy a pair of wedding rings? Why did he run off with just that and nothing else? The police say that if he is thinking of getting married, they’ll make sure that he gets arrested before the event.

Is Palin’s Wedding Ring At The Bottom Of A Lake?

Thursday, August 27th, 2009

Sarah Palin, ex-governor of Alaska has apparently hurled her wedding ring right into a lake after a real big row with her husband Todd. Granted, the couple has been going through a very rocky patch in their marriage and rumours of divorce are rife. Unfortunately the lady is so high profile that any little blip is probably turned into a huge mountain of a problem. She shot into prominence from anonymity to the public glare in the last USA presidential elections.

She’s had a rough time – first, her 17-year old daughter getting pregnant, then her son being caught buying alcohol with a fake ID card. According to sources, there really is nothing left in that marriage even though they are together. Sad, because they’ve been together since high school.

Are Gadgets Replacing Diamond Rings In Britain?

Wednesday, August 26th, 2009

Two decades ago, a gift usually meant jewellery when it was for your wife or girlfriend. Today, in a poll that was conducted on 2500 Britons who are married, 60% said that they would rather buy their wives something useful like a gadget. Maybe this is to be expected when times are a bit hard – when usefulness takes precedence over what is regarded as a luxury item. Fewer couples are also doing what they call frivolous spending on birthday gifts for each other.

Men are spending less on engagement rings and there are fewer eternity rings being given as presents. Obviously, most people want to make sure that they are spending more frugally and what they spend on should have some kind of utility value. However, as history has shown us often enough, once times are good again, things will go back to being what they were. Luxury never really goes out of style, even if the brakes are put on it for a spell.

Promessa D’Amore Wedding Rings

Tuesday, August 25th, 2009

Wedding rings seem to have come into the limelight which has been dominated by engagement rings for a long time. Somehow wedding rings were seen as functional while the engagement ring was the one that held pride of place when it came to making a show of things. Now famous Italian designer Pasquale Bruni has launched a line called Promessa D’Amore where the focus is wedding rings which will be available in pairs. These have been designed in white gold with diamonds as well as the traditional yellow gold and they will all be modern classics when it comes to style.

The name means ‘the promise of love’ and the rings have the word ‘amore’ engraved on each of them, big and bold. Through these designs, the designer said that he would like to capture the special magic of eternal love. The brand earlier had featured other rings, pendant chains, etc. The wedding rings that he has launched with this brand name are exquisitely crafted pieces of jewellery that blend gold and diamonds so well.

Fort Worth Café Looks For Wedding Ring Owner

Monday, August 24th, 2009

At Old Denton Road in Forth Worth, there is an eatery called Rosa’s Café and Tortilla Factory. One of the people who walked in there lost her wedding ring last week. The workers there helped her look all over for it but no luck. Then she returned at night and they all helped search again but there was no sign of the wedding ring. The next day, the ring was found in the parking lot. It should have been one joyful woman coming in to collect it but that wasn’t the case.

Unfortunately, maybe because she was so distraught, the woman did not leave her name or any contact number or address and that was sad because the ring was found after all. They’ve locked the ring up in the safe at the café and they’ve sent out notices for the woman who lost it to come collect it. Here’s hoping she is from the area and sees those notices.

They were married 62 years ago before a JP and their dream was to get married the traditional way in a church. Well, the dream came true for John and Florence Smatusik of Jackson Township in the US when they got remarried a few days ago in a Catholic church. The wedding rings were carried up to them by a pet pug in a pouch tied around his neck.

Both the bride and the groom were in wheelchairs – after all, they had got married when they were 18 and that was 62 years ago! The bride wore a white wedding dress that was beaded and he wore a shirt with a tie and dress pants. They exchanged rings and it really was a dream come true on their 62nd anniversary. The first time they somehow felt that they hadn’t done it quite right and then something kept cropping up, pushing the desire to marry again in a church to the background – till now. The wedding ceremony was followed by a wedding reception.

Ecologist Finds Wedding Ring In Sea After 16 Months

Saturday, August 22nd, 2009

He was looking for plant species in Wellington Harbour in New Zealand when his wedding ring slipped off and fell down into the sea bed. Ecologist Aleki Taumoepeau wasn’t sure he would get it back after searching for it but he had promised his wife of three months that he would. So he went back to look for it last year, having marked the spot where he lost it with an anchor. However, he couldn’t, due to the fact that his GPS co-ordinates were not right.

Then he went back and tried a few weeks ago – this time, his little baby son accompanied them too and while his wife and son watched, he dove to look for the wedding ring, praying that he would find it. His prayers were answered because there, just near the anchor lay the ring. What wonderful luck to be sure!

Female Wrestler Who Liked Diamond Rings

Friday, August 21st, 2009

It’s a true story about a woman wrestler of the thirties and forties who they said was as good as any man. She was a wisp of a woman – just 5’2” but she packed quite a punch. Her name was Mildred Burke and in the mid-forties, she was made ‘Queen of the Mat’ by Time magazine. She was a crowd puller wherever she went and made a lot more money than Joe DiMaggio did in those days.

A wrestler she might have been but she loved her diamond rings and her fur coats. Even when her marriage went through a long rocky patch, her diamonds were always around to console her. And now, her biography has hit the stands – it’s by Jeff Lean, assistant managing editor with the Washington Post.
