Exchanging Weddings Rings In Zero Gravity
What happens to the ring when you are in a zero gravity space? Do they fly – and do you fly along with them, trying to put them on each other’s fingers? We’ll know on the 20th of this month because that is how a couple from Brooklyn, New York is going to get married.
The airplane where the wedding will take place is called The Vomit Comet – yes, really – and it will be modified so there is microgravity. Only the couple and close friends and family will be there. It just so happens that both of them are space fans which is why they decided to do it this way. There will be 8 minutes during which the experience will be the same as that of astronauts when they are in space – almost total weightlessness.
The wedding dress has been designed keeping this in mind and the wedding rings are made of meteorite. They are being fashioned from metal from a meteorite called Gibeon which fell to earth in Namibia in ancient times. The couple paid a steep price for the luxury of a weightless wedding but feeling the way they do, it’s sure to be well worth it!
