90 Year Gets Back Diamond Ring From Sidewalk

Tuesday, May 19th, 2009

She lost her precious anniversary diamond ring last year and so many months later, she has got it back. It had been found on a sidewalk and the person who had found it saw an inscription inside with the jeweller’s name and brought it to the jeweller, Mark Loren Designs in Fort Myers, USA.

Virginia De Shazo had been married for sixty three years when her husband passed away in 2001. On their fiftieth wedding anniversary, her husband had got her a five-diamond ring and the year after he died, she went to the jeweller to have it reset. They reset it as a six-diamond ring set in white gold. So when she lost it in 2008, she was heart broken because the ring had so many memories for her. Till she walked into Mark Loren Designs and was looking at rings and told them what had happened. Was it co-incidence that just recently a man had found the very ring on a sidewalk and brought it in? The ring looked as good as new and it’s been reunited with its owner!

Diamond Trading Company Mood Sunny

Monday, May 18th, 2009

Contrary to expectations, the mood in the diamond trade isn’t bleak like in most other industries. Yes, while the sales of diamonds have fallen as is to be expected when times are tough, the fall is nowhere as much as anticipated. In fact, there seems to be a regular demand for stones in the half to two carat range which is the usual size of diamond that is chosen for an engagement ring. Unless of course you are rich and famous and in the five carat plus diamond consumer range!

There has of course been reduced production in all the mines so there is no freefall of price. This has kept the prices stable with not too much of a reduction. What seems to be very popular as far as cuts go are the emerald and cushion as well as princess cuts. There seems to be a veering towards the fancy rather than the simple and classic styles.

Sotheby’s Record £6.25 Million Sale

Saturday, May 16th, 2009

The Geneva auction for Sotheby’s saw the sale of an incredible diamond – the bright blue cushion shaped diamond from Petra Diamonds. The diamond weighs over 7 carats and is an absolutely flawless gem. No one expected such a high bid for this diamond even though it is a very unique and valuable stone. So the jubilation was so much more than usual.

Petra Diamonds seems to have built up a very great respect among buyers and the trade over the years. They will produce all their targeted production of one million diamonds by the end of June for the current sales year. Right through this period in a bad economic climate, Petra was one of the few companies that did not have to cut down on production from any of its mines. They may have cut the price a bit but they have not cut back on production which is admirable at times like these.

How Was Mother’s Day Diamond Ring Sales?

Thursday, May 14th, 2009

Across America, the sales of Mother’s Day jewellery, notably diamond rings were better than expected considering the economic climate. The traditional Mother’s Day diamond rings were bought by a lot of people across the country and there was also interest in diamond earrings as well as other diamond jewellery.

There was a great demand for flowers of course as well as jewellery like lockets and bracelets in silver. Were the total sales anything like last year? Quite frankly, no, but the sales that took place were very good considering that money is hard to come by these days. Which only goes to show that even if people cut back on a lot of things, a mother is always special and nothing is too good for her. It’s a warming thought.

Shanghai Jewellery Fair Of Diamonds Begins

Wednesday, May 13th, 2009

From today till the 16th, the Shanghai Jewellery Fair with over one thousand booths is going to see thousands of visitors coming in to look at the wonderful array of diamonds that will be displayed. Is this the right time to have a fair? The Chinese seem to think so as the mood when it comes to diamonds seems to be very upbeat in that country.

What seems to be happening in China is that the awareness and sales of diamonds seem to be moving from the big cities to encompass the smaller ones as well and the sales seem to be pushing for new markets to develop. So January saw a Diamond Road Show which is travelling from Beijing to many smaller cities and there are a great many diamonds that are being bought, with over one million people touted to view this. Never mind what is happening in the rest of the world, diamonds have not lost their dazzle in China.

Diamonds Pile Up In Russian Vaults

Tuesday, May 12th, 2009

Around 3 million carats of diamonds make their way every month to Russian state-owned vaults to be stored away because there are not many takers in these recessionary times. However, the diamonds keep coming into the diamond company that is state-owned, they are sorted, wrapped in paper and put into big burlap bags to go into the vault.

In better times, they used to be sent off all over the world but now, they are stored to wait for better times when their dazzle can delight the world once more. Who knows how long that will be? Diamonds are meant to be flaunted but these diamonds may have to live in the darkness of the vault for years, maybe.

If the prices of diamonds should be kept up and not allowed to crash, there will have to be some stockpiling done. With DeBeers going through very bad times, it is up to Russia to keep the dazzle in diamonds and not let them become just little pieces of carbon that shine. So maybe we should be thankful to those vaults for keeping the value up of the diamonds we own.

Kiss And Open Engagement Ring Box

Sunday, May 10th, 2009

A Korean jewellery company called LUVU has designed an extraordinary new engagement ring box. It is in the shape of an egg but it’s a lot more than that. This very modern and contemporary egg shaped box has a special sensor. So when a man presents a girl with it when he proposes to her, she is supposed to kiss it.

It is like a fairytale because the magic kiss makes the box fly open thanks to special sensors that react to the heat in human lips. There’s more – when the box opens up, the ring which is strategically placed in the centre is lit up by LED lights that light it up from all sides as the bottom portion of the box rotates so the ring goes around. All of this with music to go with the occasion. Of course, you can have precious stones put into the inside and outside of the box if you wish and have it custom made with your design.

So now, the engagement ring finally gets fitting packaging to go with it – beautiful, unique and something both the younger as well as the older customers would love.

David Otunga Gets A Neil Lane Engagement Ring

Saturday, May 9th, 2009

Jennifer Hudson turned 27 and on her birthday, David Otunga gave her an engagement ring. Well, his birthday came around recently and he got an engagement ring from Jennifer Hudson. No ordinary ring but a special Neil Lane ring that was custom designed.

The ring was platinum, it was hand made and it had diamonds worth 5 carats. It’s an intricate design and it took five months to make it. Neil Lane felt it was very sweet and romantic. Well, Jennifer did not know her fiancé’s ring size so they had to come over to the store and get it resized.

Is this going to start a trend among celebrities which is going to percolate to everyone? One thing for sure – if women start giving their fiancés diamond engagement rings as well, there might not be any need for a fight if the couple were to separate later. Both get to keep their own rings.
