What was an engagement ring doing in a commencement ceremony? At the Penn State York’s commencement ceremony, an engagement ring and a proposal made for a change from the usual procedure. One of the students, Rande Hake had just received her diploma when her boyfriend came up onto the stage with flowers and an engagement ring and went down on one knee to ask her to be his wife.

To say she was shocked was putting it mildly but she said Yes. All he had to say was that he had been planning it for six months and though he was nervous, he wanted to do it so it would be memorable. To get a diploma and an engagement ring at around the same time is incredible. Nothing like this had ever happened at one of their commencement ceremonies before and we wonder of anything like it will happen ever again. If the man was looking to make his proposal unique, he couldn’t perhaps have done it better!

In Newburyport, Massachusetts, a wedding ring and an engagement ring went down the toilet. The lady had cleaned them and left them on the sink and forgotten. Then her 2-year old went in and flushed the toilet. Since he was always flushing something or the other done, his mother asked him what it was this time.

Then she suddenly remembered the rings she had left there and asked her son where they were. Her worst fears were confirmed when he said they had gone down the toilet. Desperate, she called a plumber and asked him if the rings could be recovered. She was really lucky because the plumber managed to get them out after three hours. He also told her that if there had been just one more flush, recovering them might not have been possible. What could have been worse was that if any of their neighbours had flushed too, the rings would have been carried away. So she was lucky indeed.

It was an accident. Jean Fernandez of Florida threw away her wedding ring and some other jewellery without realising it. The rings were her wedding ring, her engagement ring and a 100 year old ring that had belonged to her grandfather. It was only when she realised that the rings must have somehow got thrown out with the garbage that she pressed the panic button,

She and her husband got in touch with the trash collection company and it was quite a task that the men had, going through a mountain of rubbish. It seemed quite hopeless but suddenly, there were the rings! Right at almost the bottom of the twenty foot high heap of trash. It took the men two hours but they realised just how much it meant to the couple so they did it without grumbling.

There were smiles, cheers and a lot of gratitude all around when the precious rings were found.

On that fateful day, Maryann Bruce had stashed her diamond wedding anniversary ring in her case which was in the overhead locker. When the plane went down in the Hudson River, all the passengers were hurried out and there was no time to take any of their belongings with them. Maryann has been carrying her case, her laptop and other stuff so her ring had cut into her finger which was why she had taken it off and put it away.

Then, after days, one of the airline employees went personally to deliver her things to her. She had thought she would never see the ring again – that even if it wasn’t lost, it was likely to have been stolen. So imagine her surprise when she got it back clean and intact! And it came with her case and her fur coat.

The airline went to a lot of trouble to not just get the things out of the river but also to clean and dry them and then to find their owners and return the items to them. So many were pleasantly surprised at what they did.

Actress and singer Jennifer Love Hewitt and Jamie Kennedy could have been shopping for an engagement ring from Cartier. They were seen at the reputed jewellery store recently and apparently they bought love bracelets for each other. Well, now the rumours are that they are on the look out for an engagement ring for Jennifer’s finger.

Jennifer Love Hewitt and Ross McCall were a couple till last year but they broke it off and since then, Jennifer’s name has been linked with her co-star’s Jamie Kennedy. The two act together in the serial ‘Ghost Whisperer’ and now maybe their reel life togetherness is going to spill over to real life. Looks like their wedding is on the cards for later this year.

Cynthia Nixon, one of the stars of the long-running American TV serial, Sex and the City is all set to get married to Christine Marinoni who is an education activist. The pair has been together for six years now and got engaged last month. They plan to get married soon but have not set a date yet and they say they hope to before the end of next summer.

Cynthia Nixon who is 43, says that while she sports an engagement ring, her partner Christine does not. While they will both have wedding rings, only Cynthia has an engagement ring.

There’s talk that the sequel to the serial Sex and the City will begin shooting sometime in August so that means Cynthia will be busy.

Tori Spelling is one lucky woman – she gets a new wedding ring every year from her husband Dean McDermott. This year, for their wedding anniversary a couple of weeks ago, Dean gave Tori an antique French wedding band. It’s a beautiful ring with two round diamonds – yellow and white – placed next to each other, standing for ‘you and me’.

Three years of marriage and Tori says she feels so pampered. Well, Mother’s Day saw yet another gift – a necklace with pendants. That together with the tradition of an annual gift of a wedding ring should make Tori feel like very special!

It’s an incident that tales of wonder are made of – a wedding ring made of white gold slipping out of a man’s finger, making its way in a shipping container way across the seas to Africa and then, wonder of wonders, being found and waiting to get back to its owner.

This is how it all happened. Bob and Marilyn from Rochester are a part of a church volunteer group and they help collect hospital supplies and send it off to Guinea where a hospital is being built. It was during one of those times in March that the ring slipped off Bob’s finger and he didn’t realise it till the container was on its way to its destination. So a message was sent and in spite of unrest in Guinea and rumours of thefts of cargo at the port, the container got to its destination and the ring was found and will be sent back with the next person who travels out from there.

However, this isn’t the first time this has happened to Bob – he has lost his wedding ring at least four or five times – some have stayed lost and some he has found much later.

He’s 83 years old and the years haven’t dimmed his musical genius. He still spends many days of the years on the road, doing what he enjoys most – lighting up his listeners’ lives with his incredible music. So much so that even though he has cut back on his touring and takes it easy now, he still feels more at home on a bus than anyplace else.

So it really should come as no surprise that when he had his interview with Mick Brown it should be on a bus. Of course the legend was his usual dapper self – with his famous diamond rings dazzling on his fingers, in a tux and bowtie and his gleaming patent leather shoes. The bus is actually a luxury home on wheels and today, it’s a far cry from the cotton fields of Delta. It’s been quite a journey but he isn’t calling it a day yet – not as long as he can make his wonderful music.

She went to undergo a medical test and hurriedly stuffed her jewellery into her bag before it. When she was through, she put on her jewellery only to find that her favourite yellow diamond ring which she wore in place of her wedding ring was missing. The diamond ring was a gift from her husband soon after they were married and though it was not given for any special occasion, she loved it and wore it on her ring finger instead of her wedding ring. When she realised that the ring had disappeared from her bag, she went and filed a police complaint, after having searched every inch of the way by retracing her footsteps.

The police looked at the hospital surveillance tapes and it was evident that the ring had fallen out of her bag while she was taking her jewellery out. The tapes then showed a man pick it up and quickly hide it in his bag. The police traced him because his wife was in the hospital and the lady got her ring back. To say she was delirious with joy would probably be an understatement.
