Everyone’s been expecting it. They’ve been together for so long and she’s always in the stands, cheering him on, feeling for him when he misses a point. Then came that huge diamond engagement ring and it was only a matter of time, his fans felt, before wedding bells would ring. Then came the announcement that they were expecting a baby in summer.
Mirka Vavrinec has been so much a part of Roger Federer’s public appearances and she still manages to keep in the background. They both do actually. They met nine years ago in Sydney when she played tennis too – and quite well because she was ranked in the first 100. It has been said that ever since they got together, she has managed all his affairs - financial as well as social, professional and public relations.
Today, after years, Roger Federer is No. 2 and wants that No. 1 spot again desperately though it is not going to be easy because not just Rafael Nadal but also the younger ones like Murray and Djokovic are eying that spot. Will his marriage and new baby bring him luck? We hope so. The wedding took place in on Saturday in Switzerland in his hometown and there was an announcement on his website to let the world know.
