The Putney Bridge restaurant was about to close for the night when the manager saw something glinting on the floor in the ladies’ room and picked it up. It was a diamond ring that looked so much like Victoria Beckham’s – a band made of white gold which was encrusted with diamonds.

Now one would think that if someone lost a diamond engagement ring of that kind, they’d be back in a hurry looking for it – but no one has showed up yet. The manager believes it must have been a local couple who they would recognise again. The woman went to the ladies room and came out looking upset. The ring must have rolled off from where she had placed it while removing it to wash her hands and it must have slipped onto the floor. The ring is estimated to be £1,000 so they are hoping the couple does come in and claim the ring.

Engagement rings being lost and then found make such wonderful reading. The sentimental value of diamond engagement rings can never be described. So while it can be devastating when one is lost, it is such a heady feeling when it is found!

Imagine the disappointment of a couple from Alabama celebrating their first wedding anniversary and then coming back to their hotel room to find that she had lost her engagement ring. They retraced their steps and looked everywhere they had been to and then dejectedly made their way back home. Imagine their joy when they got a call to say that the ring had been found. She got off her flight from Korea to Manila – her flight attendant duty done for the day – and lo and behold, there was her boyfriend down on one knee, a diamond engagement ring in one hand and a bunch of flowers in the other. When he asked her the wonderful question, Will you marry me? She was in tears and how could the answer be anything but Yes!

It was a few days before Valentine’s Day and the man had gone to a great deal of effort to make this possible. He had to get permission to get into the airport area where his girl would be coming into after getting off the plane. Then, he needed special permission to take a band in – oh yes, after she accepted, the band started to play.

To witness the event, he had brought along a whole host of relatives and all the people who were there also joined in, clapping and cheering as the couple embraced. She really did fly in to a wonderful surprise!

The news is that more and more men are buying engagement rings when they get engaged too. When a couple walks in to choose an engagement ring for the lady, chances are, the man will pick up one for himself too. Or better still, have it given to him by his lady.

They’re calling them ‘mengagement rings’ – the masculine of engagement rings obviously. It seems a great idea especially if women have proposed on Valentine’s Day and they would like to give their men a token of their appreciation. With more and more women working and having incomes of their own, this makes a lot of sense and it makes things more equal. Now it’s not just the man who has to do the spending for a proposal.

The other advantage is the fact that women would love to show the world that their particular man is spoken for so to speak. Otherwise, a man, till he wore his wedding ring appeared to the world to be footloose and fancy free. Women are standing up and probably saying that what is sauce for the goose must be sauce for the gander as well. We’re sure the metrosexual man of today isn’t complaining.

It has shocked the people who know her as well as her fans as it was so unexpected. Mandy Moore, American songwriter is engaged to Ryan Adams, rock musician. They were seeing each other last year but it broke up and Mandy went back to an old boyfriend Adam Goldstein who had just suffered from a plane crash. Now that was as recent as September so things have happened pretty fast.

However, it looks like she has come back to Ryan Adams and the news is that she is wearing an engagement ring on her ring finger. Close friends say it was very sudden and Mandy is ecstatic, However, her official spokespeople claim they have no knowledge about the engagement. Their line is that they do not make comments concerning their clients’ personal lives.

She’s been known for her rather bizarre style and with her Google shares worth millions behind her, she can afford to pursue any quirky style she wants. However, at last week’s Today Show, Marissa Mayer, high flying executive at Google had something more on. Glittering on the ring finger of her left hand was a diamond engagement ring.

Marissa Mayer and Zack Bogue have been an item for a while now. He is a real estate manager and there were rumours that he had gone to be with her in Paris in December and had popped the question in that city made for lovers! However, there was no sign of an engagement ring till now.

According to reports, the ring is conventional and not in the same line of fashion clothes and accessories that Marissa is usually given to.

Across the street from the Pro Bowl players’ resort in Honolulu, the Bronco’s star, Brandon Marshall got down on one knee and presented his girl Michi Nogami with a diamond engagement ring. They’ve known each other since the time they attended Central Florida together – only, as Brandon will tell you, she has a double degree and she helps maintain the balance.

Brandon had a bit of a rough year and there was all that public outcry he had to deal with. However, seeing the married players with their families has helped him realise that he was looking for that kind of peace as well. He’s a lot more mature now and it looks like this is what he wants and needs right now. They will set a date for the wedding once they are back home.

Illinois, US and never mind that the jeweller store’s trustee assured them that they would get it back, they were sceptical and unsure.

The thing is, the engagement ring was ten years old and of immense sentimental value. They had gone to the Christian Bernard store a little before Christmas and given it in to be fixed. Though they were supposed to pick it up the day before Christmas, they were busy and decided to go a few days later. That was when they got a shock to find that the store had its shutters down. Bankruptcy had been declared. Lucky for the couple that they got it back some days later – even though it was handed to them through the bars of the shuttered doors.

That must have been quite a time they went through right through the Christmas and New Year week and into the new year. It isn’t easy to reconcile the loss of an engagement ring which has so much sentimental value.

Well, we’ve all heard about Paris Hilton’s many engagements. Every time, she’s flaunted her ring, each one perhaps bigger than the one before. Did she compare each one with the other, we wonder! However, it’s quite possible she did considering her uncalled for remarks to the recently wed Fergie.

Fergie and Josh Duhamel has a private wedding with just close friends and family after which they went off for a honeymoon and when they got back, the Vanity Fair and Krug party was one of the events they attended. That was where Paris Hilton cornered her for a blow by blow account of the wedding and honeymoon. Fergie moved away first chance she got and that was when Paris Hilton was crass enough to turn to her sister and remark that she thought her own engagement ring had been bigger than Fergie’s.

Well, it’s her loss because everyone’s going to be sniggering. Fergie might have had a smaller diamond engagement ring – but she got her man – which is more than Paris can say!

One never knows with John Mayer. Sure, Jennifer Aniston and he are serious about each other and the rumours are flying fast and furious about an engagement on her fortieth birthday which is just a few days away – but has he or hasn’t he bought a diamond engagement ring yet?

It all started with his Twitter activity. He seems to have posted up a comment about welding an engagement ring for his girlfriend. The couple have been very secretive about their plans and with John being such a joker, one never knows when he’s joking and when he’s dead serious. However, he is known for his Internet presence and one wonders if this is a hint of what we can expect next week. Has the singer designed the ring himself for his actress girlfriend? We’ll have to wait to find out!
