Lost Wedding Ring Blues

She went to a party alone – her husband didn’t like making small talk and stayed home. That was when someone came up to Chelsea Cain and while talking, asked her if she was married. When Chelsea said Yes, the other lady remarked that she didn’t have a wedding ring on. Chelsea just hadn’t noticed that her ring was missing. Embarrassment aside because no doubt the other woman thought she was lying, she frantically tried to remember where she could have lost it.

Then she remembered that she had gone to the spa for a massage a few days ago and she had removed her ring and kept it in a very safe place – and promptly forgotten about it. Now she couldn’t even remember where that very safe place was. Once she got home, she hunted high and low but the ring was nowhere to be found. The funny part was that she had picked up this ring with a chipped diamond for a song at her locksmith’s years before she met her husband. Then, because she had gotten used to wearing it, they used that for a wedding ring.

Not wanting to go around with no ring, she went and bought herself a fake ring with a fake diamond and had people exclaim over how lovely it was. Her husband didn’t even notice that her ring was different. And no, she didn’t listen to her friends’ advice to tell him. Then she found it – hiding in one of the pockets of her purse and she wouldn’t have if she hadn’t emptied it all out to change purses. So she slipped it back on, knowing she loved it and it was a part of her.
