In New Zealand, the Cameron St. Mall in Whangarei saw thirty people waiting outside the Michael Hill jeweller store. Some of them had camped there for as long as thirty hours! Now why would anyone want to wait outside a jewellery store for that long?

Together with a friend, Jan sat outside with cushions and duvets, eating and listening to music. She got the diamond ring for $1 and she says she’s going to wear it for a while before selling it off on some online auction.

In Hastings, the chain saw a little more romance when a couple had camped outside the store and won the ring for $1 – and that became their diamond engagement ring! This month is going to see a number of exclusive pieces of jewellery from supermodel Gisele Bundchen’s collection being auctioned. The Brazilian model is known to have a really large stash of jewellery – she is the world’s richest supermodel after all. Now, she’s giving some of her jewellery away to be auctioned – and all for a good cause. The proceeds of this auction will go towards the Diamond Empowerment Fund. This is a charity organisation which funds education in many of Africa’s diamond producing countries.

Among the pieces of jewellery in this auction from her collection are a 3.5 carat diamond ring and a 6 carat diamond necklace. The whole collection, it has been whispered, could fetch up to nearly £ 9,000.

The tall, leggy model’s name has been linked with a number of famous men like footballer Tom Brady and Leonardo di Caprio. It is also rumoured that the jewellery that is being auctioned was gifted to her by one of her wealthy lovers.
