There are strange things that are found in strange places. In Staffordshire, when the Alton Towers Corkscrew Rollercoaster was being cleaned up prior to it being dismantled, there were a number of things that were found. Among them were a diamond wedding ring, a prosthetic leg and twelve St. Christopher crosses. The wedding ring and the crosses might not have caused much of a surprise but the leg definitely did and the park officials wonder how on earth someone could not have missed a leg!
The Corkscrew Rollercoaster is the oldest one in the park and its claim to fame in the years gone by was the fact that it was the first double loop roller coaster in Europe. It was set up in 1980 and it has taken over 40 million people for a ride. On November 9, the park will allow people to have one final ride on this famous rollercoaster before it becomes history.

In Portland, a woman and her husband went looking for a new car and finally found the one they wanted. When they traded in their old one for the new one at the auto dealer, little did she realise that her wedding ring was stashed away in the glove compartment of the old car.
It all began when a stone went missing from her wedding ring so she took it off and kept it in the glove compartment, then forgot that it was there. Imagine her joy when they got a call from the auto dealer saying that her ring had been found. An employee found it when he was cleaning out the old car.
What the woman found amazing was the fact that the person who found it was nice enough to give it back – he could so easily have pocketed it. The great thing was, the ring was found just before the couple could celebrate their tenth wedding anniversary.

One of UK’s jewellers has done research among 100 couples and this is what the trend seems to be. It was found that many women were not entirely satisfied with their engagement rings. A little over 60% of the women were absolutely satisfied but the rest had cause to grumble.
Here’s what they seemed to be dissatisfied about. They would have liked their engagement rings to have been designed in white gold, they wished their diamond engagement rings cost somewhere between £500 and £1000 and in fact, there were some who wished that it would cost over £2000.
The diamond is still by far the most popular stone of choice though some young women also indicated a preference for sapphires or even amethysts.
So when a man chooses a diamond engagement ring with which to propose to the woman of his dreams, maybe he needs to get a bit practical and find out what she likes by way of the gold to use or any other metal, the size of the stone as well as the price range. A bit of a practical and sensible approach could mean a happy woman for the rest of their married life.

It all began on a romantic Alaskan cruise. Kevin proposed to Linda and her engagement ring was designed in Canada. The couple is getting married in a couple of days but there’s one cloud on their happy horizon.
A few days ago, Linda was out when she realised that her hand felt cold and she reached out to touch her finger only to find her engagement ring had gone. Her ring was slightly loose but she didn’t think it could fall off – well, it did, and she couldn’t be more devastated.
So what Linda has done is to talk to the police and the press in the hope that whoever found it will be touched enough to return the ring before the wedding. Like all engaged couples and even married ones, the engagement ring comes with so much sentiment attached, losing it can cause so much grief!

Is there a trend to combine the two? Ask a few jewellers around and you might just be surprised at the answer. Many young couples are seriously looking at just one ring on their finger instead of two.
Why would anyone do that? Perhaps it’s taking the road to simplicity. Rather than have two rings on the same finger, you simplify things, combine it and have just one ring. Looking at it like that, it does seem to make sense. This could be to make that one ring look much better. Let’s face it, in most cases, the wedding band is just a simple circle of gold.
So what seems to be the form this new two-in-one ring is taking? Many prefer to have a diamond at the centre with either diamonds or other stones around it or on either side. Of course, the choice of metal is entirely up to you – you can choose from platinum, traditional gold, yellow gold or white gold.

In New York, one of the most trusted diamond appraisers is the Gem Lab which is situated in West Henrietta Street. Whether it’s appraising, cleaning, resizing or resetting, this lab has made a name for itself, over 50 years, as being the experts.
Take the case of Mark Wheaton. When his aunt who was all of ninety five presented a diamond ring to his wife, he knew that The Gem Lab was the place that he wanted to take it to in order to have it appraised. After all, it was to them he went to buy his diamond engagement ring years ago. This is the place where people come from far and wide in order to get their gems appraised or even repaired or restored.
They are in even greater demand today with the financial scenario being as it is when people seem to want to reset diamonds rather than buy new ones. It all began way back when Joseph Cassarino joined a jewellery store sweeping floors. He soon became known as the ‘jeweller’s jeweller’. Today, like Mark Wheaton, The Gem Lab has a loyal clientele that has been with them for decades.

Recently, there have been a spate of diamond robberies and it looks like it could just be attributed to times being hard. Let’s face it – diamonds are worth so much now that it would be a great temptation to anyone who needs money in a hurry.
At Newport Beach, California, a 47-year old lady forgot a bag of jewellery in her car and realised the next day that it was gone. In the bad were her diamond necklaces, diamond rings and earrings. The car, a Bentley, was in her garage. What she wants back most of all – and she’s offering a huge reward – is her 6-carat diamond engagement ring which was with the other jewellery. Unfortunately a lot of the jewellery was not insured enough so obviously the lady is quite distraught.
Vonda Simon had just returned from a trip to Europe and had wanted her jewellery appraised which was why they were all in that bag together. However, not only did she leave it in the car, she left the car as well as her garage door unlocked. And the jewellery was gone the next morning even though she lives in a gated, secure neighbourhood.

Boy meets girl. Boy and girl fall in love. Boy proposes with a diamond engagement ring. Girl wears his ring. Then they have a fight and break up – so the question that comes up is: who gets the ring? This has become such an issue in the recent past that many couples have gone to court to settle the issue. Both sides have a point. The boy spent for the ring – but he did give it to the girl.
Considering that most engagement rings take up a sizeable chunk of a man’s earnings, it is but natural that he feels that he has a claim to it if the relationship does not work out. Recent court rulings seem to veer that way too and more and more verdicts are in favour of the one who paid for the ring.
The thing is, it does not matter whose fault it was – since the engagement is looked at as a trial period before the couple decides to get married, it has been felt that the buyer has the rights to the ring in case of a split. And there are sites online that will sell the ring for you if you want them too.

Yet another sighting of a celebrity checking out a diamond engagement ring and this time it’s Tom Brady. Tom was scheduled to have knee surgery so what was he doing at the Cartier store at Beverly Hills? Checking out a yellow 5-carat diamond ring by all accounts.
This of course, adds a bit more to the Gisele Bundchen-Tom Brady rumours about getting married soon. Tom’s been married before and has a baby boy who is fourteen months old. Does Gisele want a baby soon too – maybe that’s what making them think about getting married soon. Tom too, seems to be about ready, especially after his knee injury. Will the Brazilian super model get what she wants? Here’s waiting and watching!

It’s in one of the classified ads that has appeared in a US newspaper in Concord and the lady who is no doubt old, didn’t want to reveal her name. The story behind the loss is poignant however.
It all began 55 years ago – on Easter Sunday to be precise. The man had hidden a Tiffany’s yellow gold diamond engagement ring inside a wax Easter egg and it was meant to be a surprise for the young girl he wanted to marry. She obviously accepted his proposal and soon she had a yellow gold wedding band to match.
Then, 55 years later, she lost both her rings and she does not know where as she was between doctors’ appointments and hair appointments. She’s offering a reward to get her rings back and she’s devastated that after so long, they are no longer on her finger. We do hope for her sake that she does find them.

The beautiful Mena Suvari, the female star of the movie, American Beauty is engaged to Simone Sestito, the music producer and dancer. The happy event took place while they were on holiday in Jamaica. He designed her diamond engagement ring and sources say that they are planning their wedding for sometime soon.
Mena says she wants the wedding to be like a fairytale so they are looking as far afield as Rome for a great location because they would like the wedding to be held in Italy. Very natural as Simone is Italian-Canadian. Mena is already talking to her friend Stacy of Alice+Olivia to design her wedding dress and it looks like it’s going to be a dream come true gown. However, the couple does not seem to be in any rush but it looks like they would like a wedding that is carefully planned, right down to the last detail. They were recently seen together in Italy shopping after which members of his family came and picked them up. Quite a cosy scene, to be sure.
